It always amazes me how well trucks hold up when you don’t salt the roads. A 92 here would look like a big brown pile of rust. My 2005 looks worse because of rust issues

THAT looks like a real good deal if it runs like the miles claim, If i dident allready have an extra 360 and 318 motor, and dident enjoy welding up old trucks, i would buy that baby for sure, Good solid looking project truck. I dont see many trucks from the south up too this salt rino state michigan.

That looks like a perfect candidate Hans. The 242K miles on the engine wouldn’t bother me much. nobody gets those kinds of miles without some diligent service. If the owner wasn’t opposed I’d like to pull a valve cover. No visible sludge gets a pass. The main thing I’d be concerned about with those kinds of miles is the auto trans. Usually not something people service on a schedule. Outside of noticeable slippage or noises I don’t know how to assess those.

I would just check the color after riding it around a short distance or warming it up. If there’s still some pink then there’s time to replace the fluid for fresh stuff.

Tom & Cody, thanks I’m not looking to buy before Argos. Just trying to get my finger on the pulse of what’s out there. Square V8 Dakota’s harder to find than I expected, but there are still some left. Just thought I’d share what I find in case someone else is looking

Here’s another cheapie:

Too bad you are not ready to buy Hans. That thing has a cigar lighter.

I got 99 dakota i paid 450.00$ for runs great 207,000/ rear frame shot from rust. If your anyware in michigan, they salt the hell out of the roads, these 99 dakota frames are barel;y 1/8" thick , even ware there is no rust. check the frames for rust,

This puts a whole new frame of mind on “American by birth, Southern by the Grace of God” :scream:

I’ve heard a lot of guys spray hot oil on their undercarriages to keep rust and water off. Ever tried that?

Well i just paint oil greese any lub i got on bare metal frame stuff, I just bought this one,and it got neglected for rust gaurding.I heard of hot heavy oil though.I use tar some times too. THE rest of the front frame looks OK too good enough, too weather gaurd. I have seen my share of rust buckets, i have repared several unibody cars from rust. Those southern dakotas i havent seen too many up this way, YET.

This one will work for now, i plan on moveing the frame rail out about 5" anyway ,too give room too fit my insulated 20" burn tube and housing ,down between frame and drive shaft,so i have zero wind drag and still have 3/4 barrel hopper size. And my fuel tank elseware, and or behind the rear axel. Since this truck is two wheel drive, a little extra frame length, and weight, will help with better traction in winter time. PS The 92 too 95 dakota might have different and thicker frames,??

Hey Jakob North .

The add says no reasonable offer refused .

You may have an extra V-8 motor down there to stick in it…
