Hi, I would like to know if replicating the free gasifier plans and producing it for comercial purposes as a company in my country could be a crime?
We are doing some readjustments, but I still need to better understand if it maybe a crime to refine, multiply and sell it
I think most people on this forum will like to see someone do this.
Rindert
Welcome to the DOW JosephM.
To duplicate out for sale someone else’s design will usually cause you legal and social push-back problems. I am currently on-call as a witness in one of these legal battles.
Free gasifier plans? Do you mean one of the nine in the DOW Library section??
Well five of these you would have great problems if making up more than one for personal use.
Since you put up your question in the “Motorcycles with gasifiers” section then you would be wanting for 2 and 3 wheeled smalls??
You will be wanting a pre-made charcoal gasifier for the weight and space savings of on-board equipment.
Only Gary Gillmore’s referred to is a charcoal fueled system.
Two other men too have done charcoal motorcycles:
Eddy Ramos - Argentina.
Koen Van Looken - Thailand.
None offering their systems for free.
But contact these three men individually via a DOW personal message for just what an arraignment they could offer you.
A raw wood fed gasifier system requires much, much more operator understanding and training. Much more attention to the details of just how, or not the system is currently operating.
Every single man or company selling/offering a raw wood fueled gasifer to people has had time, and time again people fail on their systems. Not so good a business to be into. Some of these guys have had to buy replacement engines for “customers” after having to take the wood gasifer system back.

Oh, thank you Mr Steve
I understand it, but because I am new here, I found this public message to be the fastest way of being informed.
My focuss is on the Charcoal ones, mainly the Simple fire.
After knowing those possible complicated maybe I may need more interaction with Gary Gilmore for better understanding and clearance, because me and my country’s small holder farmers really need this type of technology
Thank you Rindert Wasseling!
My focuss now is on Gary Gilmore’s simple fire, to use it to run small engines mainly water pumps and generators.
I may need some time to master it, but as long as I don’t get in trouble after starting because of the legal issues, its fine.
You might find this thread helpful: https://forum.driveonwood.com/t/gilmore-style/
@k_vanlooken had goals much like yours when he began the thread, and made huge progress.
Go to the top black tool bar and click open the stacked papers tool.
This will bring up the DOW’s topic categories.
Koen Van Looken has 63 topics that he set-up in the Charcoal Gasifiers section. 33 or so he set up in the General Topics section.
Some of those were his small engine powering charcoal gasifiers for Thailand Farmers. Those mostly for water pumping.
A few others were put up on his 2 wheeled and 3 wheeled farmers transportation vehicles.
He clearly from his DOW beginnings gave credit to Gary Gilmore for advices and experiences.
For small plots farming The Slovians: KristijanL.; and Tone have made up and used charcoal systems for small walk-behind farming equipments.
Not luck. Perseverance. Willingness to take engine risks. Small engines and they are really just simple nuts and bolts. See-Do’s. Not Doing? Easy to diagnose and fix.

Good one KentP.
JosephM. on the right hand of page slide bar go to the last entry 2017 and click it open. Then scrool upwards. You will immediately see his evolved, developed systems.
I could not get his early 2013 pictures to load. Archived, lost.

Thank you Mr Stevd Unruh
When I can’t see pictures on threads older than 2016 I often can see the pictures if i read the threads on my phone. No idea why but it works for me so I tend to read older threads exclusively on the phone, not ideal but most times pictures is necessary to understand.
By no means a legal expert, but the types of gasifiers you are talking about are updraft, charcoal, horizontal or vertical nozzle. Many variations. No need to copy anyone else’s or be involved in proprietary disputes. None are patent-able and there is very little chance you will raise anyone’s ire unless you duplicate their particular variation and try and profit from it. Highly doubtful you will make a thriving business out of making and selling them anyway, though more power to you if you can. If you are mainly interested, as you stated, in filling a need in your country then you certainly can make a difference.
@Chris, could you help set up a new thread for @FirstJoseph ? His interests seem pretty different from the Motorcycles topic.
welcome joseph in the forum, i make also small engines with charcoal for agriculture…grass mower for hay, motorcultivator, tiller, mower for grains, electric current generator…, actual projects are a little chain traktor and small tractor with dumper cart…
look at my profile and go on topics, there are a lot of pictures and also easy making charcoal systems from twigs…
my builds must not be built from stainless, this is only my personal favour for long durability
also eddy ramos - auto a basura in google, there are a lot of videos from eddys builts on you tube, made from simple material…how i know eddy distribuites his knowledge for free for developing countrys, for the glory of god…he has a lot of followers and afterbuilders in india per example…
from what country you are?
ciao giorgio
joseph, here a video from eddy…
when you work with charcoal gas, be careful, unburnt gas can be deadly…only use outdoor
English-Manual-V3-PDF.pdf (2.1 MB)
and this for a car…
joseph, look here for example “charcoal from twigs…”
with this method you get automatically the right charcoal “fuel” size…
Moved to a new thread.
Joseph, nobody owns the concept of a gasifier. The only thing might be a direct copy of someone elses’ design, and even then without patents in place there’s not much they could do about it. However it would be common courtesy to ask them first, and make some arrangement with them if possible.
I know this is not your goal, but I will mention the Wayne Keith gasifier is not allowed for commercialization or profit, we do sell plans for it to individuals with the understanding that they will only use it for personal purposes. The small revenue from this keeps the lights on at DOW.
Best of luck with your venture!
Alright, now I understand it. Thank you!
Thank you Mr Johan. Now I also understand that point, I thing the most recent content is more clear and complete.
I got it! So I am going to start with gas cylinders, for my first samples, because that material is the cheapest that I got.
I am now following him. Thank you
Thank you for the information Mr Giorgio. I am from Mozambique, Manica province.
