Life goes on - Summer 2015

Wow…how cool is that? Do you know how old the organ is? Kinda makes you wonder how much we have lost over the years in knowledge and ability to design and build such a machine, without the use of computers and internet. Bet you was full of pride watching your granddaughter put on the demo. Thanks for the video.

I saw one at a circus with my grandma once when I was a kid. I -think- it was one of those like one of the last ones that was original and not electric. It had moving Dolls and stuff on the front that played instruments. It was actually fun to watch. I liked it better then the circus itself.

At first I thought this was a wood gas car just draining condensate :grinning:

Perhaps you should add that feature to the tracker! You could go around lifting your tire on all the gas stations you pass.

I don’t know what category to post this in so I’m doing it here.
I found this tool? in a box of stuff that came with the Atlas lathe I just bought and I don’t know what it is. Anybody here know?

Hi Don, it is a piston ring tool, it expands them to put rings on pistons. Same tool I use, Al

Yeah Tom, I got it off Craigslist from a young guy who got it from his grandfathers estate. It sat in a barn for years. I don’t think he knew what it was worth because he asked $100 and I didn’t argue with that. It is an Atlas 12 x 36 with the quick change gears. It came with a 4 jaw chuck - wish it was 3 jaw. I cleaned and lubed it and everything works smooth. Now I got to learn how to use it. :grinning:

How much tooling came with it? You can easily spend a lot more than $100 on just that. Quick change tool holder? Oh heck pics please

Yep, what Al said, piston ring expander. I think I’ve got one of those and I know my dad has at least one of them.

You guys crack me up … Nice seeing you Tom in Argos when I was “sick” with lyme. You were in better shape than me … I figure to hook up my old trailer to the truck this weekend … I bought a (small german made) cadillac last week but it needs a radiator … I drove it to a neighbor’s a few hours ago and he messed with the key and now it dings dings dings … Do I need security … I will listen and pull out the dinger this weekend … I’ve only had it up to 100 so far and it has plenty to go but the speedo only goes to 140 … Like I said, You guys crack me up … REGARDS, Mike

Hey Don, at work we use the 3 jaw mostly, but interchange it to a 4 jaw in about 5 minutes. A magazine called “Home Shop Machinist” for hobbyist has lots of leads for your machine. Go to the River Town mall in Grandville, second floor, Barnes and Noble store. An old school way to check it out.
Holland doesn’t have it.

Just wanted to “ditto” Jim’s comment about " Tubalcain machine shop" videos, great stuff presented in a great way from a likeable man, he is a retired shop treacher with lots of knowledge to share about all kinds of Machine Shop tools! Lots of info about the Atlas lathe, casting your own parts and lots of stuff to numerous to mention! Herb H
