That is a nice stack! Those will look good stained red. 🙂 Do you stain them once before you put them up to get both sides, then go back over it once after it is done, or do you just wait until they are up to stain it? I am assuming you are using the traditional homemade iron oxide stain, so cost isn’t as much of a factor.

I’m not asking you to change. I just ran into these, because a friend was shingling his barn, and he said something that made me go look for solar shingles. I ran into these and I think they look sweet. 🙂

Got this type-plate sign from a friend, hard to see, but it says: Hesselman type 450, a wartime woodgasifier, he had found it, and wondered if it was worth saving, ofcourse 😃 hopefully he got it, and then it ends up in my place.

This afternoon, I kicked up a cloud of dust… You might remember this 190 cm wide rotary tiller; I used to power it with the “old” gasifier, and back then, the drive system was pushed to its limits. Well, this time the load was “lighter,” clearly demonstrating the difference between the old and new gasifiers. The soil here is incredibly dry and hard, making cultivation very demanding; my brother Lojze, who lent me the tiller, has a 47 hp Zetor and says he has very little power in reserve when running this implement.

That is impressive Tone, a rototiller is hard work for any tractor 👍
If i put one after my little Fergie, i think the tractor would start spinning instead, when i put the pto in gear.. 🤪

Goran, don’t underestimate your Fergie; these tractors keep surprising you—simple, small, and agile, yet with a “big heart” … a robust transmission and engine … especially when I think about all the loads it handles …🫣😃

Are these standard snow chains any good?
My current chains are such a hassle to get right, so I wanted something else.

maybe make some new rims and wheels.. The Amish only use steel wheels. It looks like they have vastly improved them over the years..

We have been putting chains like that on my Neighbors tractor for years Jan. Still a tough job to get them tight enough that they aren’t getting any slop while driving. Two people make it a lot easier to get them right.

tone, remember your fergie is a modyfied diesel and görans is a petrol from the ´ 50 …i think it has also no differential blockage, when i am right?
here is a fergie like this offered for 1400 euros…temptative, but has no reduction and the first gear makes more than 5 kilometers/hour, seems fast for me, our fiat with more than 3 and something kilometers/ hour is fast…
what do you coltivate on the field, tone?
we have finished the seed with the new seeder, and generally it works well, thoug the motorcultivator have had difficult with sliding on the crumbly ground, but it must be done on chargas…the pasquali wasnt ready yet, but next year…

Hi Giorgio, I plan to sow wheat in my field; my brother Lojze says the best time is at the end of this month—otherwise, it might grow too tall before winter sets in. I’m also preparing another field that hasn’t been cultivated for years; a friend used to mow it and graze his cows there. The soil is very hard and clayey, but rain is forecast for the coming days…
My Fergie has a low-range gear and a differential lock. Well, the engagement mechanism on this model isn’t the best design—the cam that pushes the lock into place doesn’t have enough travel, so it doesn’t work very well. I’ve been meaning to modify it for a while, but I need the tractor for work almost every day… but as I said, rainy days are coming, so I’ll have time for it then.
A while back, I brought in another Fergie—an original British model, though it lacks an engine (and doesn’t have a diff lock, either). I plan to install a VW 1.9 SDI engine in it; naturally, I’ll remove the diesel pump and install a 4-cylinder ignition system, and I’ll machine down the pistons to achieve a 13:1 compression ratio (an interesting project for the years ahead)…🙂

Hi giorgio, my little fergie, Ted20, gasoline/kerosene, is, just as you say, somewhat fast on lowest gear, and there is no reduction gearbox, just 4 gears forward and 1 reverse.
Also hydraulics and pto is affected by the clutch, something that could be troublessome when “precision work”
I’ve tried it with a 1,8meters sickle mower, and that was not nice, felt very fast, as some revving is needed to “get it going”.

Our shared road is up and down some fair hills Jan so I’d have to say they are biting in. His tractor will not climb a hill without them when the snow gets to where the tires no longer dig into the dirt. If you decide to go with them I’ll tell you how we get them tight.

Does that have anything to do with letting air out before chains and then airing them up?

The problem I have with my studded chains is that they tend to shift out of position after a while; last winter, I tried securing them to the rim at five points using steel wire, and that got me through the season.

Since I have a front loader on the little Massey Ferguson, I have to carry a counterweight on the rear lift arms—otherwise, I can’t make it up the hill to the cabin, even with the studded chains.
