picture is showing gasifing short-form fine-split STICK WOOD.
Possible. With the right type of tree wood. Dried/seasoned down to excellent. And with some manual mid-system “char breaking” rodding to settle-in the char bed.

steve, yes, interesting picture, we have seen something similar from a foto from australia ( wood pieces vertical in the hopper)
here seems they give the wood pieces more in horizontal way in the really big hopper…maybee the charred pieces down are breaking by the weight of the not yet charred pieces up…with help of the uneven streets…
