Small kiln for drying wood chunks

As an aside, you can just drill holes or slits in the bottom of the barrel, and unscrew the cap, and put a nipple in it. Put it in the sun and it will probably dry in a day or two. The barrel actually gets fairly warm, and you have a top vent to help pull air through.

There are alot of designs for solar drying racks like that a black metal box with vents. Just think how hot a car gets.

I think Kristijan did a great job. It would actually work really well for what we in the US call woodchips since they restrict airflow and you need the airflow. You can use a similar tube system with solar and woodchips. i am not sure the tubes are needed for wood chunks with air gaps in them. putting all the holes in it, and taking up the space just seems like quite a bit of extra work and I am not sure you gain a whole lot. A one off batch because you ran out, I could see it working well. But for any volume for daily driving, I would use the sun.
