A small DIY gasometer. I’m thinking this is largely an academic exercise, as the amount of gas something like this would hold is too small to do any real work, but it is a cool idea.

The other way i have seen been done was to use a gas bag and them compress into cylinders. Providing there is no oxygen in the system it could be an interesting idea and storage of wood gas.

Good gasometers can be made out of many different containers. And they can be ganged in series or parallel to suit various needs.
