Bill: No, actually… I’m not saying to get your home up to a toasty 70F, but it should help take some of the edge off and keep the temps into a safe range for extended habitation.
Ok, I wasn’t sure.
Over here when it’s sub zero, you maybe able to warm your hands, if they are directly on the pots. I have a 2 1/2 car garage and my wood stove running at 900 degrees F, with fans blowing on it, can’t even get the garage above freezing. I’d be happy to get it to 50 degrees. I’m going to try a fan with a higher CFM and see if that helps.
Is your garage insulated? In my area, most garages aren’t insulated so they stay at around the outside temps. I honestly have no experience living in areas that get below 0F. About as cold as it regularly gets around here is +20F with maybe 1-2 nights a year getting down to +10F.
I wouldn’t expect the pots to work miracles, but if one could get even a +5F average shift per set of pots in your main room and have 4 sets of pots, that would be a theoretical +20F shift over otherwise which might be able to tip the balance into a more comfortable temp range.
Anyways, let’s stop clogging up this thread with OT stuffs.
Bravo, Chris!
I say, keep talking to anybody who will listen.
Good Morning Fellows
I want to say that I’ve personally had Garry Whitcom’s experiences too.
With woodgas.
In Life for real also.
Woodgasing here Washington PNW I’ve had urban/eco/green freaks mad at me for selfishly hogging “thier” sacred trees. Trees I OWN and PAY the TAXES ON! Had very rightwing conservatives VERY mad at me for intending to by-pass the set up, very complex existing drill/pump/refine and distribution fuel chains in any way. I am a “cheater” for NOT supporting thier lifelong investment returns.
Both of these opposite extremists seem angry that I do not buy into thier pre-set world views. Want to go my own middle road instead.
I may, Internet expose myself willingly. But would never, ever, do a non-controlled interview.
They aways get it spun wrong, incomplete and advancing thier own agenda’s.
1986 I was partners in a combined Auto Electric Wholsale/Retail/Rebuild/Repair business. I was already a graying hair then with 20 years “business” experience. Older partner was a very gray hair with 30 years “business” experience. The youngest buy-in partner, new, in charge of the vehicle repair shop was only 3 years “management” experienced deep. A walk-in new customer was one of the area’s prominent TV new reporters. WE Told him to be v-e-r-y careful. This guy was his stations “consumer affairs reporter”. First: a few repairs (brake jobs), and services (oil changes) for him went OK. Then he brought in his 83 GM V-8 with a HIgh Energy Ignition system with a mis-fire. Partner found one spark plug wire loose at the spark plug.
Vehicle had 60,000 mile in-use electrode worn spark plugs, corona/ozoned aged wires, and now an arc damaged tracked distributor cap and rotor and a torn plug wire boot end. These all also the original factory, now worn/aged with 60K miles of usage.
He recommended new spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. Recommended also as a preventive replacing the in-distributor HEI system processor modual. GM High energy ingition puts the much higher output ingnion coil inside of the distributor cap and these WILL direct spike up to 80,000 volts to force an energy release pathway somewhere when the normal spark path is open circuited.
Turns out that this consumer news reporter needed a weekly time fill-in story and had pulled a plug wire loose on his, “was running fine vehicle” and then taken it to a few shops for diagnosing and repair estimates. We were on the 6:00 PM News painted at the “Rip-off” end of the shops spectrum for trying to recommend repair/restoration to give him another 60K miles of reliable service for him; his wife, and their children in thier family station wagon. His, “brother-in-law driveway figured out the off plug wire and fixed-it for free!”.
Spark plug wires that have been in service and then boot heat bonded on do not just jump off by themeslves. Gray hair experience: Find the WHY! Solve the WHY! Or eat a come-back!
Young shop partner started getting his real experienced gray hair over that one. And had to bust ass for a year to get back up his business volumn lost from the TV smear. Reputation tarnished. All just for being helpful. For being Technically right.
GarryW. not to worry to much about this. Woodgas cat is out of the bag with all of the youtube tinocan system broadcasters.
All mainstream woodgas published articles get old fashioned scoffed at for “new tech batteries”, “clean burn hydrogen fuels” and all other current trending futurist easy Solutions-For-All bull-wooie I’ve seen since the 1950’s - nuclear cars. 1960’s - gas terbine cars. 1970 - modern steam cars. 1980’s and 1990’s - modern electronics going to solve all problems.
The real potential Hurt are to those of us who do attempt to challenge these current establishments and entrechments. No gold stars waiting for you.
Two personal PNW friends of mine now gone underground from face to face woodgas broadcasing out at public events to get privacy back from “establishment” harassments reaching into thier lives.
No convincing those who must try this on their own to earn their own spur scarred, gray hairs of experience.
ChrisKY is correct the “new” Mother Earth News has been a willing suporter of modern use woodgas. This deserves ackowledgement and some feedback support for those willing to gag their Ads cluttered publications.
This will not be me . . . again.
Chris I will tell you as LIfetime subscriber #2xx to the original Mother Earth News that even back then, they were too overly optimistic, and cheerleading on, and never highlight out the realities of daily living with woodgas and wood fuel space heating.
Your improvement to their presentations will be IF they will now allow you to put daily usage reality to this beginning.
I will watch hopeful for their maturity on this.
To wrote and self-publish a book as ChrisKY/WayneK.; and VessaM have is not broadcasting out and woodgas preaching.
YOU must search out and buy-in commit by buying the book! THIS gives your consent that what is discussed, if done, is at your own responsibilty and risk. Same with DOW site participation. To participate, talk, exchange you must reach out and click argreement to the terms of service. Voluntary.
WanyeK specifically says this is for only a minority of folks. Those having the wood for fuel; and willing to work it.
Now Sell actual systems. Sell componets, and the responsibility reverses.
Yes folks. You had better have a very good insurance plan then and build-in that to your prices.
Our “Consumer” dumbed, numbed down societies are not going away anytime soon either.
Their Insurance buy-in is forced fed onto you . . . . or: have a damn good walk-a-way option you will have to live with.
