I have owned a plumbing and drain cleaning company in Mpls MN for 23 years. When gasoline price tipped over the $4/gallon mark, I started searching alternative energy vehicles. I drove out to Eugene Oregon and picked up an OEM 2000 Ford Ranger EV. With 60 mile range with the batteries, it allowed me to drive past the gas stations to get to work and back and not much else.
My business partner told me about a book he just read that talked about wood gas vehicles. I looked at him as though he was crazy and straight to the computer we went. We spent the rest of the day on the internet. That was two years ago and I have been hooked ever since.
In 2014 I finished up building a mini WK with a 6" fire tube. It was first flared at Argos and had the privilege of having Wayne Keith himself fire the first flare from it. That summer was spent adapting my 15 hp Sears riding lawnmower to run on wood. I configured a PTO to the front of it with hopes of future use.
I am currently building a gasifier for a 1995 Dakota.
My dream of living off the land may be approaching sooner than I originally planned. Things are falling into place to do so by the end of this summer 2015.
