Chevrolet s10 4.3

The experiments are done on a 6-cylinder side valve 3.67 liters comp 5.9.
The power taken out on the rear wheels. They tested at 35 kmh and at 75 kmh, got almost no difference in temperature under the pipe, they also tested without any carbon under the grate and got no difference in power
But for that it does not have to be right, have seen that only changing a parameter can change conditions a lot.

New attempts.
First picture of the carbon in the cyclone after a few days.
Others on the ashtray, completely drunk, did not clean it last.
Third on how the coal looked just under restriction, the big piece of coal I put there last, about 4 weeks ago. Why has it not disappeared?
Now I have a pipe that goes up a bit on the outside fire pipe and put a net on top of the grate there so that the coal will remain better.

Does it say anywhere how close to full power during those tests? 75 km/h can be either light or hard work.

What surprices me the most is the temp diff, center vs close to the wall. That would suggest a restriction close to the grate would be beneficial, to concentrate the heat (WK-style).

It’s obvious now your grate is slipping too much char. Maybe you could just put a few bars across, on top of the existing ones, for testing.

Probably because the majority of the hot gasses sneak out to the sides above the grate. That’s perfectly OK, but suggests you could tighten the grate quite a bit without doing any harm.

@TomC showed me that it is in the library here on the forum, Gengas: The Swedish Classic On Wood Fueled Vehicles page 40.

Thanks Tom C, it seems like the car is running a little better, has driven 2 times now, last time it went at least at 95kmh, think it seems stronger too.
Would think I have to redo the grate, it will probably be tight pretty soon with the net I put in.
And thank you Kristian, for making me think.

Jan, I’ve been meaning to ask you if you’ve been for registration inspection yet?

I have to redo the pipe between filter and motor, should I continue with 2 “Or should I go up to 2.5”?
It fits very well with 2 ", both under the car and into the intake; so I pull myself up to get up. I’m lazy.
@JO_Olsson, the plate between the flatbed and the unit, must it be tight for inspection?

Jan, I believe a 2" inch pipe is able to pull more than enough vacuum on our size gasifiers. I read an old thread only days ago where Wayne experimented shutting off one of his two pipes on the Dakota. There wasn’t a noticeable vacuum loss until the very upper end of the V8’s breathing ability.

No, I was told just to prevent any cargo sliding into the gasifier. My devider has an inch of clearance towards the bed to be able to brush or flush back any debrie from the gasifier area. Also, the plate wasn’t wide enough to reach across.

Thank you, then I order 2 ", where did you get the aluminum plate?

BorlÀnge HandelsstÄl. That plate cost me more than the rest of the build :sleepy:

I think I get too much soot in the intake
the tube with only hay as a filter, so I have put in 4 "foam rubber and a pillowcase with hay in, above the hay in the barrel (the filter).
The car was shifting much better now, before I had problems with it shifting at very high revs, why did it change?
How do I clean the foam rubber from soot when it gets tight?

Thanks for the tip Steve.
I will try to find a blanket in wool, and test with.
I think the car worked better with the new filter, but do not understand why.
Bought a carbon monoxide detector, feels very good to have in the car.

Hi @don_mannes , I have to ask you about your s10a, what filter do you have in your car and how fast does it go on level ground?
Do you have a WK or do you have Imbert?

Hi Jan,
I have a 30 gal (113 liter) plastic barrel with straw and 4 inches of foam. It likes 55 miles per hour (88km) . It is a modified WK with a ceramic wool firetube and a 2.2L 4 cylinder 5 speed manual.

Thanks Don.
Do you get any soot in the intake manifold?
How do you clean the foam?

Very little soot in the intake so far. I lay the foam on the grass and soak with a water hose and then step on it with rubber boots to squeeze the black water out. The straw takes most of the soot out first and that is just rinsed out with water.

Welcome back Don. I guess your knee has gotten good enough for you to type on your computer. Hope to see something new from your shop. TomC

Do you @don_mannes have a rheostat or pwm for your petrol pump in the s10?
I do not want to go for major roads with mine, because it goes so slowly uphill.

Jan, what happens if you just flip the gasoline switch ON and open up your air mixing valve 100% when going uphill? Will you be running too rich?
