I’m impressed Kristijan! I’m still suspicious. Your days must have at least 48 hours.
I wish… days are slowly geting longer thugh, this boosts your moral at least.
Things are comeing together!
One quarter of the track is done. Hope to finish friday. I dont have electricity down at the mill so concrete needs to be mixed manualy in a wheelbarrel. Slow work but getting there
Very nice Kristijan!
It appears Wayne has influenced you.
In more thain one way!
Looks good Kristijan!
I know you have no shortage of slopes. Make sure you take advantage of gravity when planning ahead. Sawing can be quick, but wrestling logs into position is often time consuming.
Bill, tell me who on DOW has not been influenced by Wayne.
Some more than others, I admit
I’ve seen horse shoes made into coat and hat hooks, even for removing boots. Never have I see them used for latching a door until I went to Wayne and Lisa’s
Hey Bill .
Anyone that would incorporate used horse shoes all through his house would probably also incorporate used bulldozer parts through his house if he had them available.
Yes Wayne, your creativity is jaw dropping. I may be your biggest fan after our visit.
Bill, l specialy liked the horse shoe toilet paper holder
Funny how our minds work. We add on mostly to our already acquired area of expertise. That’s why the neat and clever utilisation of slabs in the interior design caught my eye
Done! Had a friend helping me. Wanted to fell the trees down today but the wind was picking up and we took no chances. Shuld start milling in about a week or 2 when the concrete sets well.
The mill is not finished yet but high temps forced me to knock the trees down before sap starts to flow. Knocked down 3 spruces, 8 limetrees and one cherry tree. 4 or 5 spruces are still planed but require a winch to pull them off the road where they will fall. I will clean them up and do some measurments, then decide if l need to knock down more.
This limewood seems like a fantastic wood to work with. It is light, strong and likes to be worked. It is traditionaly used for wooden sculptures
As @Tone sayd, weather in Slovenia is wery warm and plesent, great for farming stuff.
Been burrying the spring down, l thod of turning it in to something usefull.
Planted bay, rosemary, sage… Heat and dry loving plants.
Kids planted some beans in a mason jar. I never imagined they wuld actualy fruit!
Garden comes together. Planted some fruit trees on its border as a living fence. To be grafted and trimed next year.
Garlic doing good
Radishes and carrots too
Transplanted some berrys, strawberrys, asparagus… from the old place
This last one is the only flavor enhancer l ever use. Lovage. Tastes good in a likker too!
Aaaand it happened. Total lock down. Only trips to the store, work and doctors are possible. Only food and farm stores are opened. Renoating a house in those situations is near inpossible. Cement is nowhere to be found. Steel neither. Woodgas projects get tricky…
Broke one guide bearing on the sawmill. No spare. Luckly i found a similar one in a burned out drilling machine but if a nother one gets shot l am screwed.
Not to mention l have no spare blade… fun.
But one needs to remain positive. This thing did not stop us, it just redirected our plans. Instead of focusing on house renovation we will be focusing on farming. Garden is set, l measured out a feald to be plowed for corn, l will sow some alfalfa in rows in the hayfeald, a small feald of sunflowers for chickhen protein food sorce and bees, and a nother feald for potatoes and beans. But first, all the bush needs to be cleared and stumps dug out.
Ha, and not to mention wood prepp! It will be a fun year regarding that.
Makes me think of an incident of a few years back. Our clothes dryer went belley up. It was so old i could not get parts, so bought another machine. A couple days later, I was reading one of my old popular science magazines. In it a fellow had built his own dryer from scratch! Caused me to think, my old machine had all the parts, cabinet, drum, motor, etc. I could have made or modified a part to get it running pretty easy. It was just the mindset.
Hi Kristijan, In hard times I have used oil soaked hard wood bearings, and they can be made any size you need. Keep them oiled, make spares. The old Frick sawmills used cherry blocks for bearings.
Very dry hard maple soaked in hot wax for an hour lasts the longest.
