Discovering my freedom in Slovenia - start of a long book

Funny how we prefer solid fuel for our vehicles but liquid fuel for our bodies
Congratulations on your water supply. Impressive work.

Wow, Kristijan. I wish that you were my neighbor. We just last April bought a 100 year old small farmhouse on 50 acres in West Virginia, USA. 40 acres of woods and 10 acres of grassland bordering a big creek 20 feet wide and two feet deep. With a hand pump well on the back porch. Nearest neighbor two miles away. No snow removal, no mail delivery, and no cell phone reception for 15 miles in any direction. I could show photos if others are interested. Trouble is, we are old. As in 66 years old and 70 years old. Hope we can muster even 20% of of your energy.

Sounds nice Mark. We need pictures now! How do you get internet there?

ViaSat internet. Satellite internet is only option here. I don’t want to hijack this thread. If anyone else is interested, then I’ll start my own thread.

Think most people are interested in your yard, would be very fun to see.

OK. I’ll do another thread on it later today since at least two people have shown interest.

How deep does the frost go where you are?
You’re plans always seem to work! Congratulations!

Congrats! Water tap works. A beer tap next, right?

You probably already planned to, but buried sheets of styrofoam when refilling the trenches should take care of the frost.

Lets not talk to soon! It will all work if the spring works good. Rampump needs a lot of water. Summer droughts might pose a problem, it that case a small electric pump will help pump one or two reseroirs a day in the top reseroir.

The deepest l have ever seen frost go is 2-3 feet. My main trench is 6 feet deep. The drive pipe trench is shalower at 2-3 feet and will require some sort of insulatiom just in case.

Oh, beer tap. I realy do need to go back to brewing… I have helpers now and here, if helpers get water they will only come to help you once…

The rule of thumb here for insulation is 30 cm on each side of pipe and 25mm thick for each ft of frost dept you want to replace…

How much land did you say you have at the new place?

Hadnt had time for a detailed description yesterday.

We have been excavating and leveling the driveway for the last 3 weeks. A excavator, bulldoser and about 15 pounds of special spice was neaded to get the job done, tou can see the coridor behind the house was all rock before. Dolomite/limestone.

Second is our future garden. Just spreaded manure with a thick coat of leaves and hay. First crop is viaible, the winter garluc poking out trugh the hay.

Ha, good eye Mike  yes this is something to keep kids buissy.

Last pic is the feald l burned allmost every evening for the last month or so. 20 years old grass, dry and thick, l took no chances and progressed slowly. I still have about a third.

Don, it is about 23 acres. Used to be about 80% fealds/hayfealds, now its only maybee 20-30%. The rest is yound forest that will be wery rich when l hit 40-50s.
