Glossary of Woodgas & Automotive Acronyms

Hi Cris:
I am suggesting some sort of “Glossary”. This may be technical/ language acronyms and/or American slang words and other. This topic could mainly be aimed to beginners (like me) and the rest of the world for a better understand of this forum.

This is now an editable post. You may add your own entry by clicking “Edit”.

FEMA (F.E.M.A, fema): Federal Emergency Management Agency. Usually refers to a
gasifier they created, stratified downdraft design.
GEK: Gasifier Experimenter’s Kit (All Power Labs).

Good Morning EddyR.
I’d thought there was already one here? Look in the liberary section, and no.
There is a terminology glossary in the “Have Wood Will Travel”, book.

So good idea for the forum section here too.

I will add:
F.E.M.A (or FEMA, fema) a US Government emergency use only gasifier system authorized and published out made of hardware store garbage cans for limited use only.
SEFI: Sequential electronic gasoline fuel injection. Each individual four-stoke cylinder only getting just the right amount of gasoline injected on only it’s intake stroke. Versus bank injected on every down stroke; and throttle body all-stokes pulsed injected. The gasoline fuel for SEFI MUST be super clean filtered to not clog the very tiny injector nozzle holes.
ECM, PCM, ECU: all different manufactures names, over the decades for the ELECTRONIC calculating brain for engine spark, fuel and even transmission commanded OUT controlling.
EGO/HEGOLamba/O2, BARO, TP, TPS, MAP, MAS/AF: all primary and secondary duty sensors in an electronic fuel injection system.

Ha! Ha! Calling bullshit on someone is usually not capitalized. Just bs, or b.s. to be polite.

Hi Steve:
Thank’s for the reply.
I already bought, paid for that book and the shipping, but never got it. Not Cris fault.
Regarding the “Glossary” I will order it alphabetically and add your suggestions:

Hmm, I did miss this page when we moved the site. Using the amazing tool, The Wayback Machine at archive.org, I found the old page.

Also the automotive glossary:

When I get some time I’ll put this back in the library.

sounds like an acronym dictionary. :slightly_smiling_face: I like it. Don’t know how to maintain it, but I like it.

I do not know how that I overlooked this one:
PCV valve: Positive Crankcase Ventilation system/valve
This is the Granddaddy of all engines mandated emissions systems. Mandated in California since 1963? Mandated in all US-of-A since 1967. Pretty innocuous system - usually. A good full flowing system actually helps to keep the oil cleaner for longer oil use life.
Malfunctioning flow control valves can make some system (HONDA’s) idle terribly. To woodgas system suck with the engine this system most often has to be defeated.

YMMV should be moved down to the “slang” section.

OK, I’m cleaning up this topic a little. Please instead of reposting the entire list every time, just edit the original post above. Keep it nicely organized and follow the same formatting you see already there.

Thanks for the push on this one Edmundo, I forgot how helpful such a list can be.
