JO's -91 Mazda B2600

I’m starting to think about a car older than 93, because of co values, and that I don’t like either the four-wheel drive (only works sometimes) or the automatic transmission.
The Mazda looks good with a small back seat, the Volvo isn’t wrong either, but then I can’t drive home a pallet of firewood, good advice wanted.

Sorry Jan, I wouldn’t know what good advise was if it jumped up and bit me on the ass but a mid 1950’s Dodge power wagon is on my list right after the Unimog. 4WD is a necessity where I live and I too would prefer a manual trans preferably with a creeper gear. I know you are looking for a different animal. Still I choose anything that doesn’t require a chip to run.

Hi Jan, hard to find some pick-up trucks today, most have rusted away, i agree Jo s mazda is a great truck for woodgas, hard to find gasoline ones, many junked when computer broke.
As it seems no trouble to inspect with woodgas in Dalarna there are’nt very small frame of year models? I had to build on one before 1989 (pick-up trucks only) otherwise i had to get a emissions certificate.

I have asked a bit about this up here, carspek, agrees with all year models, if I put in a gas tank of max 10 litres, inspection in Västerås.
Opus, who I had my car inspected by, seems to be a 93, now that the person who certified my car has stopped. However, I am a bit worried that they will look at my car again, after I asked.
edit; Gengas Werner I think has a 91a, and he’s inspecting this one down there, isn’t it right below you?

Jan, did you pass inspection finally?

Hard to give advice on vehicles. Not much to choose from in the years we want unfortunately.
If you do happen to find a another pickup, that would probably be your best choice. I think it would be a lot of work to get approval of a sedan, unless you’re willing to go with a bumper mount and no towing capability.

Yes, I was thinking of trying the suzuki, it has a frame, but it seems boring to go to västerås, especially if you have to go several times.
The neighbor at the end of the lake has 2 Mazdas, one that has been in the field for a long time in 91a and one whose frame is off in 2001, but I don’t know the price.

What year is the Zuzuki and what engine? Have you tried feeding it some woodgas to see its reaction?

Make him an offer on the 91 Mazda. Maybe it’s for free. Probably same engine as mine. At least patching up a frame is less work than patching up a unibody.

The Suzuki is a 96a, 1.6 liter engine.
The Mazda has probably been in the grass for 10-15 years, both body and frame are rusty, I would think, in 2001 the frame is off between the body and cab.
Asked before before I bought the Cheva, then he wanted SEK 2500 for the 91, but thought it was too rusty, don’t know if the engine runs.

Same as in my Geo Tracker except one year newer. Is it OBD-2? Four valves per cylinder?

Don, Jan can answer for himself, but I only resently discovered your GeoTracker is actually the same vehicle called Zuzuki Vitara over here

I’m wondering how European builders work without pick up trucks. I’m talking about home builders, small farmers and the like. I could not have done my business without trucks.

Tom, the answer is with beer, a lot of cursing and envy to you guys

Tom, we have many pickups from Japan, but most of them are converted to epa tractors, probably 90%, can go max 20-30 mph, of the rest many are rusted away.
Got a lot of new Dodge pickups here suddenly.

Jan, it says electronc fuel injection on the air intake. Hope it is not throttle body but instead multiport injection if you want to woodgas it. The body looks a lot like my Geo Tracker which like J_O said is a knock off from Suziki. How do you open the door to get in - crawl through the back hatch?

It is injection in the carburettor, I have had problems with this.
There is a little space so I can crawl through the door. But it just sits there, I never ride in it.

Maybe something like this

My first vehicle i wanted to woodgas was a Datsun king cab pick-up, nice 2wd truck, with an enormous homemade plywood bead.
I did a fast headgasket change on it, and accidentally dropped the timing chain tensioner down the sump. Ofcourse it started well, and rinsed out the timing transmission…
It went to the junkyard.
