Life goes on - Summer 2022

You tell me how those can be legal on our public roads??? They are running every where up here. I saw one down town that was driving with one set of wheels running in the gutter and the outside wheels in the apposing traffic lane. TomC

I see you have a pile of scrapwood going, where are you mounting the gasifier?

Stieger used a lot of other manufacturers parts. Like the original engine was a Caterpillar 3306 which has been upgraded slightly but basically the same engine. The joke or maybe they were serious, all the 4x4’s were made in the same factory and painted different colors. I think allis, case and international all had extremely similar designs.

Might be getting the Cavalier this weekend. Ordered a fuel pump and filter for it. Until those items arrive I might just try to clean out the existing filter and see if the old pump is truly dead or just clogged up. I can’t believe these cars have a 15 gallon tank. I’ll probably change the oil before I try to crank it up, and see how nasty the coolant is. Praying it’s green coolant, not sure exactly when GM mandated the Dexcool OAT coolant.

Don’t forget to smack on the bottom of the tank while somebody cranks the key, I have limped along more then one sticky Chevy fuel pump  actually how I got a free Saturn SL2. Side of the road dead lady said it was free, the fuel pump was dead. She left I grabbed an axe out of my truck wailed the tank till I heard the pump come on and drive it home, my wife drove it for 3 more years haha

Good idea.

Buddy said he hasn’t attempted anything. I find this to actually be a good sign, that means no spinning the engine dry, no starter fluid cylinder wall washing. He’s going to squirt a little 2 stroke mixed gas and turn it over to make sure it still has working spark.

I’m going to go from cheapest fix to replacing the pump. Relays, percussive maintenance, take off the filter and blow it out with some shop air, THEN if I must I’ll change the pump and filter. I’ve fixed a few motorcycle fuel pumps by just shooting a little air through it to break the shellac off of it.

The injectors I believe are bottom feed, so I plan to mix a bit more than suggested Marvel Mystery Oil to help swell the injector seals back up and clean any junk out.

Hey BruceJ, now how does that plea go . . .
oh yeah: “Oh Lord for what we are about to receive, we thank you.” Hear that; Hunker down, NOW.

I actually think the old Chinese have it said cheekier, “May you Live and in interesting times.” Hear that tuck-in, and get small.

Or my all time favorite: “Bright lights! Bright Lights!” Far too late to run, then. Duck and cover.

Ain’t right you fellows stealing all of that snow, man.
Come on now. Share some out. The Dutch would really, really like to get back to winter skating; in their own country.

Yeah. I haven’t checked with the county garage to see what our totals are this year, and if the past holds true we will still add some, but that’s well over twice what we got this year. Believe me SteveU. Only the mentally infirm need or want 300 plus inches a year but ice is nice.

Oh Tom,
It’s worse then you think. I bought this place at the end of a dead end road, so I would be purposely off grid. They want $35000 for grid. If I do, then the next guy only pays $500, and I get a cluster of neighbors.
Now you can understand why all the generator porn.
Although, this week is bittersweet, we have all the metal covered up yet, so no need for the generator. Plus, the sun on the snow is making too much solar. So I am compressing air and making ice cubes, til the wood comes out of the snow…I also rehabbed all the saws and ordered maintenance parts.

I thought they reimbursed you for ‘with neighbors’, but for 35k, you can basically buy a whole off-grid solution, and maybe a few more acres to keep the neighbors further away. :stuck_out_tongue:

Got the box off my 1999 dakota up here in the rust belt, checking too see if i keep original frame, or build square tube frame. Could be plated and under coated though its getting thin in spots.

Does anyone know how far you can stretch a coil spring from like a cars coil over for a shock? I’m wondering if I could get away making a screw chunker with a coil spring, then welding support pieces down to like an axle. It reality it would need to be a larger width spring, but spring steel is hardenable, and broken springs are scrap metal price or less. MUCH cheaper then buying steel plate to attempt to make flights.

While I was having a walk around my property I found something grandpa left behind that I forgot about, a 3 point tractor hitch crane. At least now I have something I can use besides my chain hoist in the shop, and I can stop worrying about how heavy a gasifier might be and how the heck I am gonna load one in my pickup. Just need some chain for it and a good hook.
