Life goes on - Summer 2022

Sounds good. Most my uncle hauled was pulling a covered motorcycle trailer full of furniture. However he got it used. I’m gonna check the fluid color and go from there. I’d hate for it to blow up right as soon as I get it, knock on wood!

Lots of miles and it’s pretty beat up in the body. But hey it’s a V8 pickup.

I remember my buddy got a 98 1500 in Arizona, pulled it back to NC behind a U-Haul truck and then soon after the transmission grenades on him.

I’m wondering if he still has it, I could always use a parts truck.

If time permited, you could allways pull the tranny, hang it on a tranny stand ,like a engine stand, carfully slide it apart and slip some new clutches and seals back in it, I tried that on my 700r4 chevy tranny, and had no problems, serprizing on the first time tried. I drove about a year, in my 1985 orange chevy s10. I sold that truck and later found a v8 dakota, so i will have better power on wood. Though i have not tried the 1999 dakota dodge tranny, i have a trans rebuild kit waiting for it.I will have too get a junk yard spare too lay the parts out, if i get lost, putting back together, I got the tranny book allso,to double check, untill i get the parts memerized,in order. Good luck with your dodge ram truck, This will get you a decent tow vehicle.

tf that tranny is anything like a Dakota tranny putting clutches and bands in it is really easy.

The trans in my 2000 Ram 3/4 ton disintegrated four months past the warranty deadline. Truck had a big plow on it. Even the trans cooler had to be replaced. Put a Jasper re manufacture in it and it plowed for another 15 years. Trans is still good. Never knew anyone that broke a Torqueflite 727 though.

Money’s in the bank, going to give the truck a serious once and twice over. He might be my uncle but I need the truck in a decent condition. I guess that’s the upside of getting a line of credit instead of a loan.

Bring it home drain ALL fluids, replace with Lucas products, new fluids. I been doing this for over 30 years, and never had a major component go bad. I run all my vehicles(all used) well over 200k(most had close to 300k) with no major break downs. But, I don’t buy any thing but Fords.

The irony is the Ram is kept parked here at moms house. He switches between his Buick and his Silverado he bought from my cousin his daughter. That’s why he’s wanting to get rid of the Ram, got something nicer. I’m kind of puzzled why he doesn’t leave spare keys here, he pays half the energy bills and gets the Mother-in-law sectional of the house.

Mom of all people is saying to be as scrutinizing as possible to the truck she thinks he’s selling because there might be something wrong with it. So if I can’t nab the Ram I might look for a 90s F150 I’ve always wanted one.

Alright, first glances at the Ram.
257,181 Miles on the clock.
Starts up quick, oil pressure at idle is about 1/3rd from 40 and 110. Driver’s door check needs to be replaced.
Extended cab, or whatever you call it when the rear seat is accessed with suicide doors or sliding a front seat up.

Has a bed liner that’s immediately coming out because I see pine straw out the wazoo underneath it.

Trans fluid is clean! I think Otis was dealing with some issues of it burning oil but when an engine is this old it’s no surprise. Rebuild in the near future most likely.

Mechanical radiator fan, I like that. I’m spooked by electric fans and whether they’ll cut on or not.

Couple dents in the door and bed, I really don’t care about that. Needs a coat of paint somethin fierce.

Valance is about to fall off the front bumper I’ll probably pull that off. Need to go take a test drive with it real quick.

Ram 1500 Laramie SLT, 1999 manufacture so it’s either a late 99 or an early 2000 year model.

I guess if you like looking at Hooptywagons…
I have never seen almost symmetrical parallel dents on a vehicle until I saw this truck.

Dash is only 10% cracked! Amazing for a 2nd Gen!

We have a cassette deck. We’re in, boys!

Interior is okay, headliner will eventually be in my teeth.

Random jugs in the backseat makes me nervous, like I should check my water levels…

Only wish we had more of them in Sweden :frowning:

I’m hearing a clinking sound like chains rattling in front. I recreated it rocking the truck up and down by jumping. Maybe bad struts?

Also I’m fighting it to go straight, wants to veer right and I hope that’s not death wobble and just bad alignment.

Okay so the clinking is a strut. I can see it wiggling around as I bottom out the front end. Something is tapping on something else.

Is this strut even installed correctly?

Doesn’t look right to me, pretty sure there’s supposed to be some cup washers and rubber sandwitched there :joy:

Otis said he had the coolant leak fixed. I’ll take his word for it since he’s not known to be dishonest. I’m sure the struts are years and years old, nobody ever replaces those.

I like that this model has the struts OUTSIDE of the friggin coil springs that’s nice.

It’s a 2WD so it isn’t as heavy as it could be, I personally don’t care for 4wd I’ve gotten around just filling barrels with water in the bed and going slow. They don’t make tires good enough for the thick ice we get after snow day.

Edit: Rear end is some kind of nasty messy mess.

Do these trucks really just use a rubber plug for the fluid level hole? That’s what it looks like.

Truck is missing the spare tire, the cable holding it up snapped. GREAT

Rear diff fluid is overfull, I think the rubber plug is old but it’s a little pliable. Started seeping as soon as I even pried it open a bit. I might buy a new diff cover just to be safe.

Have people been in trouble for using a gasifier on their vehicle in Brazil?

According to brazilian laws only vintage cars who had this when was legal could use gasifier… left-wing sh**y laws

Just be careful of carbon monoxide.

Maybe you should build it on a rear rack carrier with a box to hide it?

Maybe a box inside of the car should be less suspicious for the police, but is gotta need time to study this, and make it on my kadett

You will need to divorce the gasifier from the cab of the car for fear of poisoning yourself with Carbon Monoxide. Airtight from the passenger compartment but have plenty of vent holes where the gasifier itself will be located. This will likely mean you won’t be able to see directly behind yourself anymore.

Getting cold feet on my uncle’s Dodge. Found more issues with it that I’d have to replace right away, front tires, alignment, suspension, plus high mileage. I didn’t secure that kind of money to be throwing at it, and I know he won’t come off the 3,500 price. Checked Marketplace and a guy is selling a 1992 F150 with the 4.9 Inline 6 engine with 140,000 miles. Engine was recently swapped into there, and has had transmission service. He’s willing to drive it to my workplace to show it so that tells me it’s at least roadworthy enough to get across town in city traffic. If that one doesn’t pan out there’s another early 90s F150 in Hendersonville for half the price, guy claims to still drive it daily.

@trikebuilder57 what do you think? Think a 4.9 will run good on woodgas?
