Life goes on - Winter 2014

Hello Tom .

Just making sure you know you can buy prescription lens for your welding helmet.

I know because I bought a couple of lens by mistake. Just the opposite of what I could have used and couldn’t see anything. I did notice they were expensive for just a welding helmet lens .

Wouldent grind for a liveing any more, welded inside and outside of about 4 foot tanks, nasty job power wire brushing the stick welding on the inside, dont know why we dident mig them on the inside, I think the steel was a little too rusty.had the smoke fans hooked up backwards for about 6 mounths/it dont work too well, when pushing air in / you have too draw the smoke out. allthough i never had any certs.

Yes Mr Wayne, I have used the lenses that go inside the helmet also, but when I got my self darkening helmet I couldn’t put the lenses in it. I went with out for sometime. I finally got the glasses for the shop and lordy lordy, I can see my puddle again.TomC

Going down to the NFBA (National Frame Builders Association) show this week in Louisville. Anybody else going to be there?

But i have built stairways, one for a friend with a rantal , and one for freind too the upstairs in his pole barn, those tall ceiling stairs really eat up the floor space down below,in order too keep the foot room on the step big enough for code. Its hard measureing for the last step for the cut out from the ceiling/floor.HAD fun building my pole grodge 32/28/10’ceiling. Good clean job that is building struckures, jesus was a carpenter.

A really slow but really awesome way to make wood shavings for those with a sawdust gasifier. Hopefully this FB video thing works…

1/4" ice last night. No power at the mill or at home. Pretty, but the roses and daffodils are suffering.

Hi Carl, Look at those rose leaves and I think I see a dafodil in there … Nothing green here … Predicted to be below zero the rest of the week here … Mike L

Grand Isle Ferry ferries breaking ice from Plattsburgh, NY to Gordon Landing on South Hero Island, Vermont. The big snow just skinned by us thankfully. We have a little over 2’ on the ground. Got the same minus 10 F spell going on. Time to feed the stove. Pepe

8 inches of snow here today… high temp was 15 F. Truck is buried to the axles.

Hi Chris, Been like that here for months (since mid november) Thanks for posting that pic … Now I know spring IS just around the corner … C ya soon … Mike

Too make you glad too see spring,at least it aint an ice storm,we had enough of them last year,my snow blowers broke, so i shoveled 12"too 14" out my wood hauling trailer about 100 feet too the back yard, then got my truck and trailer full of slab wood about 3 times, just before sun down, no need too roc too sleep tonight.

20 below last night, left my electric heater on too help my wood heater out.IT WILL SOON BE TAPERING OFF THATS THE BEST PART.

We had about 5 inches of snow and It got up to 21F today(mid Missouri). Have you run your truck in these cold temperatures? We are waiting till the weather warms up to above 32F at night for a week before we try driving it on wood gas.

guess i better stop complaining about the Mid 50 temps here in Daytona Beach… might get run off the site.

I’m sure 8" of snow is nothing to you northern folks. Frankfort and Franklin County apparently only have 13 plow trucks though. We’re actually under a travel ban today, because they can’t get the roads clear. Gov. Beshear declared a state of emergency (big whoop) so they can pull in the national guard to help out. Nobody’s answering the phone at the post office, so I guess they’re closed too. I’ll just go tomorrow.

WE got 8" every 3-or 4 days last winter for at least 5 snow storms in row, this winter has been a brake for us michi, ganders, Now if you only had a big pile of wood close too the shop door ready for chunking. You could get a payed day anyway, how is your shop being heated.I got about 130 gallon of nice small charco all shook out, from my wood burner ready for spare char. did not know how much char i was waisteing till started saveing it.Happy SWEM SOON.

Hello Dean
I live a ways south of you, I drive my truck about 30 mi every day in all kinds of weather with no problems.
Just pull the drain plugs at night and put them back in the morning.
We have about 5’’ snow here to. 12* yesterday ---- 22* today

Hi Pepe, I sent you a note last night but got multiple error 403 messages … I saved text and may try to send later … Glad to see open water with chunks … Lake Michigan is still pretty much open so they keep getting lake effect … My wife said it was wide open on 1/25/15 near Milwaukee … Regards, Mike … brrrrrrrrrrrrrr regardless …

Not to complain, but I flew in home ( east Tn ) to a snow and ice storm, from Hawaii !! Nearly froze finding my car in the parking garage. Wonder if Power labs would pay me to represent them and wood gas on Oahu ?
