Life goes on - Winter 2022

I’m living inside the zoo here, so it’s more their habitat than mine. These animals have probably never interacted with people. I see fresh tracks across the cattle yard, so they seem ok with cattle and people’s stuff.

Thanks Kristijan, I’ve been very busy around here, turns out setting up a farm in the bush is a lot of work…

Wayne, all that green stuff in your video made me go look for signs of spring. No luck

Not many things worse than signs of spring when it’s still winter. Trees bud and then freeze. No fruit. Everybody gets spring fever and thinks they can plant stuff. Freeze and frost always come back. To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven.

You’re very correct Tom. That’s one reason why I try to choose the most flexible fruit trees as far as Zone Choice. The Russian Red Pomegranate tree I planted can actually be grown all the way up in Michigan, and as far south as Georgia. We get fairly short winters but they still get blistering cold.

I guess being blessed with longer growing seasons I can afford to wait for Last Frost before planting anything. Wish I had a greenhouse though.

A few of the homesteaders I communicate with, Cody do very well with cattle panels bent into an arch and covered with visqueen. No hoops required but a couple of rows of two by’s on posts with the panels fastened to them make a very sturdy greenhouse capable of carrying snow loads.

If you are not familial with Walipini’s, they are another economical way to grow in a protected environment. Even a small cheap greenhouse will give you at least a month head start on getting seeds started.

HI jan- did you turn your heater off just too make it sound cold out there- you sounded cold- I shoveled about 5 inches of wet snow out of my 75 foot long driveway- After i spent first half the day cutting and bolting a DIY tire chains to bust up the two layers of ice and frozen wet snow. no time for gasifier today-THE snow was to heavy or i am slowing down- all i had on was tee shirt and a sweat shirt.it was only about 42 f degrees here today between noon and 5 oclock- THANKS for the ride in the mazda truck.I had a mazda pick up back in the 80’s=i think it was 84 truck.IT did not have much extra power but it ran like a swiss watch.

Thanks Kevin. Only days after recording that video we had a serious thaw for several days and my driveway is back to a skating rink again :frowning: Cold nights but sunny thaws during daytime.

Are you shitting me JO? I always thought that was what heaven looked like. That is, if it were surrounded by some rows of corn, squash and tomatoes.

What I would do to have a one time access to that pile.

Johan, J.O,
Wow! That picture is great! Looks to me like mostly Inox (Stainless) and maybe some Aluminum. I don’t see any rust. Yowsers! :cowboy_hat_face:

Guys, close to heaven it is. 90% is stainless. The pile in the picture is maybe 1% of the scrap surrounding us. They are tearing the papermill down, turning the whole site into battery production.
