Life goes on - Winter 2024

As a contrarian, I have to offer up this morning’s scene to counter all this cold stuff which is sending shivers down my spine.

Can I come and live with you Marty? That is just beautiful.

As the Swedish saying goes…when you mention the trolls…
This happened today. Johan called me and I answered - holding the phone to my ear when I met them and they made a U-turn. I managed to stear the conversation into woodgas - no fines

So it all was Johans fault?

Most things are… Just ask my wife

Yes, of course
They actually did a very thorough job. Asked where I was going, driver’s license, alco-test and looked for knifes in the truck. That might surprice you Americans - carrying a knife in public can result in a fine, not to mention guns if you don’t have a proper licens. The young girl even recommended me not to keep my screwdriver in the door compartment. But then again, they were polite, I drove off with no fine and they learned about woodgas, which they knew nothing about yesterday. Win-win

Even when my wife is chewing my ass out about something I try and shift the blame to you Johan.

I can’t remember the last time I went out without a pocket knife JO.

Do you know if it’s ok to have a knife in the trunk?
Some says that even that is illegal, but i can’t really believe that.

This reminds me about many years ago, i looked around some scrap on my fathers place, and found my old bowie-knife, a monster, about 12 inches long. I put it in my belt to remember to get it home.
That evening i was shopping at a supermarket (ICA-Maxi for the swedes) when i suddenly became “cold” just standing there, when i remembered…

That’s ok if you can get her to believe that sometimes Tom, I bet there’s enough stuff you get blamed for anyway

When teaching someone at work I usually give them that option so they won’t feel bad if something happens since I do encourage them to try out most things and settings to see how the systems and processes react. Imho that is the best teacher of all, hands-on.
Of course I’ll be in the background or otherwise avaliable for potential support.

From what I understand it’s ok as long as it’s not easily accessable. If not, it would be impossible to go buy a knife  Not to mention problematic for carpenters and such.
@Tom, I carry a knife most of the time too. This rule is strange. Probably a way to be able to hold scumbags until they gathered enough real evidence for something.

Sure thing Göran, she will believe you. After all, she met me :joy:

I have a Mora knife in the side pocket of all car doors, obviously to cut the seatbelt in the event of a crash.

Just have to mention this: Absolutely beautiful Martin

I can see the potential for side income here :slightly_smiling_face:

I see what you mean Kent
Although I would have a hard time charging anyone in this group and I don’t think I would offer this service to anyone outside of it either, at least very few. Tough nut to crack so I guess it’ll be free of charge

When I was in college, I carried a 6” hunting knife in a sheath I had made that snapped into the inside of my cowboy boots. I suppose that would be frowned upon these days.

I’ve carried knives all my life and never once cut or stabbed anyone. I notice those Swedish cops look pretty storm troopery. I’m betting they don’t go into migrant areas without body armor. They have been trying to disarm Americans for decades. It’s never going to happen. Gun owning Americans constitute the largest armed force in the world.

Most of the time when I am taking a bath or shower I may not have my knife but it is close by

My wife says “Yes consider moving here. We need a few neighbors because my husband is bored for company and he’s driving me crazy.”

Tell your wife much appreciated Marty and 20 years ago I would have given it real consideration but now 20 miles is as far as I’ve been away from the house in quite a while and I keep those adventures to not more than two hours. It really pisses me off when they rearrange the stores I go to and I have to map out new routes to the things I need.

I don’t have wife so I feel left out. I am just going to use your name instead of profanity and still toss a dime in the swear bucket.

Just a reminder the TC airport IS within your 20 miles travel radius. You have mentioned this for like the last 5-10 years. it is only 5k roundtrip for you and your wife to get to santiago, chile. Unfortunately delta doesn’t have direct flights from detroit so you have to bounce to miami, atlanta or another city if you take Delta. You will need a passport and those take a while unless you are a fugitive or illegal alien.

Since you have to wait for the passport anyway… Trump will be in office by the time you get it… So report to DHS that you are an illegal from Chile and should be deported, and you will get a free trip. Once you are in Chile, we can send you your passport so you can get back in.
