Life goes on - Winter 2025

What Göran said. My pickup is dual fuel inspected, but with the Volvo I haven’t bothered. Still, they actually let me leave the woodgas equipment mounted even during the ordinary inspection.
I’ve been pulled over 5 or 6 times by the police, but they know nothing. Just curious about top speed, consumption and how early I need to wake up in the morning to light up. During my first 30 years of driving on gasoline I’ve been pulled over twice. Woodgas is obviously way more interesting

What’s an inspection?

In Canada, Manitoba specifically it only needs to pass a road safety inspection when a new owner purchases a vehicle. With my truck I passed the safety before I put the gasifier on. As long as I continue to keep it registered it won’t need to be inspected again.

A question for our friends that have no reoccurring inspections, is there no repricussions whatsoever by the police or law in any way if you or someone else caused an accident by the neglected upkeep or roadworthiness of your vehicle?

The law enforcement is technically allowed to stop vehicles if there are noticeable damage or critical non working components on a vehicle and require it to be inspected. For example a burnt out tail.

If it were to cause an accident because of negligence of vehicle maintenance that could possibly lead to charges. Though Chat GPT can’t find many public cases where this has happened. Though accidents like this could be put down as impaired or reckless driving.

For the most part it is reasonable for vehicle owners to ensure their vehicle is properly maintained. Ensuring breaks, steering or lights are in working order.

Thanks Bronlin. So it’s more like everybody, including government, trust that you are taking care of your vehicle and keeping it up until it is proven that you are not and then you could get into trouble.
I wish that would be the case here but the government are more like big brother has to check everybody’s vehicles since the riff-raff mob cannot be trusted to do it themselves, blaming it on safety concerns.
To some extent I guess they are right, a lot of people (if not most) don’t check their vehicles at all in between the inspections and then there could be a safety issue but on the other hand perhaps they don’t check it since you have to let someone else check it for you, i.e. inspection.
Sort of a self fulfilling prophecy.

I like your way better, let the ones that can take care of their car do that and let the other ones let the garage take care of it. More freedom and trust.

When we lived in Southern Michigan there was a CO test required but I never recalled having a routine safety inspection. I think it was in the early 70’s that there were road block inspections in this area and I was mostly driving “hot rods” that I threw together so if I was driving and saw a back up ahead I made a quick U turn. I always wondered why the cops didn’t have a car behind the front check point to catch criminals like me but I never got caught. Now there are no tests of any kind.

The last thing I want is to be stopped for even a tail light burned out by law inforcement so I keep it road worthy. Yes in washington state they dropped the vehicle inspection on the west side of the state. Here in central and eastern Washington State we had no inspection. But we have no reconized gasification for vehicles. This why I just do not making it known what I drive. I did have a officer come up to my truck years ago when I frist stated driving it. I pulled the wrong lever and my engine died. It flooded out. While I was tring to start it he pulled the behind me to see if I needed help. He pull he hands on my truck while I change it over to regular gas. It start up and I thank him. He never even said about the truck.

I heard about them. I heard they weren’t just looking for CO. They were looking for untaxed fuel like alcohol as well.

Reading all your posts make me very thankful to live in a place that doesnt require all those inspections… which is very supprising to me! As libral as MN is, it often supprises me that they dont have more restrictions. I am very thankful they dont! But makes me fear for a day there could be.
When reading about how tightly regulated some places are in regards to tree cutting or listening to you guys talk about vehicle inspections and all it requires. Really it just opens my eyes to what its like in other parts of the country and world.

My thoughts exactly Chris. I’ve lived here in Wisconsin for over 40 years and never have had a vehicle inspected. I have however had a run in with the DNR over wetlands that they seem to put way too much importance on.

ChrisW., yes many of us live in need-inspections and need-permits areas.
A fellow can go mad trying to state-hop and move away from all of this.
I’ve personally known 2-3 fellows taken it as far as move to other completely different countries.

Some impositions that evolve onto a fellow should not be tolerated and to stay sane you just have to move away from. The reason ALL of us in the USofA are here now: new-citizens to back 4-5 generations moved to here.

But mostly in a modern world just like the older worlds daily peace is learning to live between the pages of the Book-of-Life.
Specifically living in the same State with the race to have the highest taxed gasoline . . . just drive less. Obtain and drive a “cheat” like the wife’s 40 mpg Toyota Hybrid. Take that tax and spend Governor Jay (now Governor Bob)!!

And back in our decades long bi-annual mandatory vehicle emissions system inspections I was one of the scofflaws who reveled in for-the-test cheat tuning old vehicles to beat the tests. Then having to re-tune so these old worn could be daily driven. Hugely illegal to do this.

When whomever is the They; demanding . . . become the quiet scofflaw chuckling at your work-arounds.
Only stupid idiots IMO have to stand-up and out rabble-rousing insisting for make-right changes.

Those who rabble-rouse for acceptance and expansion of bio-mass fuels either get smashed flat; or financially starved out.
it is the personal using woodgas/chargas DIY guys who just keep burning along, healthy and happy.

I got them installed. it was a pain. You have to take the wheel off, pull the fender liner back, and open lid to access the back of the bulb, then spin a locking mechanism.

otherwise the led bulbs went in just fine, and they might actually be twice as bright as the old ones.

2 pm today, November 20th. Winter is here.

Wow. Those shadows show a really low sun angle for 2 PM. When we moved from 34N to 45N we noticed the big change in winter, but you’re way ahead for shallow sun.

Yes, I believe both me and JO is somewhere between 60 and 61 degrees north. It’s been pitch black here for several hours and it’s now 7.20 pm , however the snow helps a bit

Here in the south of Slovenia, snow also fell at the beginning of the week, only a few centimeters, but it didn’t last more than a day, today it’s only raining.
These days I’m working on restoring a plow that I recently bought, Fergie needs a two-furrow plow. It’s a quality Slovenian plow from 1980, it’s a bit younger than Fergie…

A two bottom plow of that quality would cost you between 15 hundred and 25 hundred dollars US. Well worth your time refurbishing the one you got Tone. You can see for yourself if you goggle “price two bottom plow”

Hey Guys freezing mornings weather has finally arrived here now.
So . . . here is a video without much snow but lots of too much speed; and too much attitudes, “I do not need specialized (expensive) winter tires!” “I’ll be fine” “I am a good driver!” “Jesus loves me.”

The safest way is to live rural as much as possible away from too many “other guys”.
Road side snow banks are good for softening come to sudden stops energy absorbers.
Better videos up illustrating this.
Ha! My favorites are hilly city streets pin-ball actions. No tires; no all-wheel drive, will help.
Just do not be there. Avoid! Avoid! Avoid!

I’ll be putting the Wife’s soft rubber studded Nokians, and my sticky rubber stud-less Blizzaks on today.
