göran pay attention about the wasps in the old truck, one can never now if they have survived…why you use a false beard? is yours got lost with a unexpected hopper puff?
Reindeer farts. Greta decided they were major methane producers and got them banned.
This pic is from a few days ago. There’s still no snow, but at least a thin layer of frost for Santa’s sleigh.
Merry Christmas
The new year is fast approching. For all the active members that have built a project in the past years , I think it would be a great idea to have a up date. Yes your finished gasifiers and unfished gasifiers up date. Even if they need some repair work to be done on them or improvements.
Find your old thread that you were using and post it there. This will bring it back up to the top at the present update on the DOW site. There has been some wonderful gasifier builds on this site in the past. From gasifier motorcycles, small trucks, larger trucks, gensets, cook and heating stoves, and just the good old flaring the beautiful blue / yellow flame offs, like we would do the Argos Wood Gas Meet Ups. If you are just reading but not putting any in put on the site, this is your change to show your build that you did a fews years back again. I know we would all like to see it. I would bet that there are new members that have not seen your build because the thread topics on the DOW site is so large now. So for the new year go to your topics and bring them back to the top for all of the new and older members to see them again. Don’t just let your topic sit there, bring it back. Who knows it might spring some new life in you to finish or repair your project. It did this for me. You can do it. Give us all a up date.
It is amazing when I reread other members topics I get inspired and learn new things that I missed before, or in my case have forgoten.
DOW with a SWEM.
A little humor curtesy of Farm Show Magazine:
Guard Dog
A traveler entering a small country store noticed a sign on the door warning, “Danger! Beware of dog!” Inside, he saw a harmless old hound dog asleep on the floor.
“Is that the dog folks are supposed to beware of?” the traveler asked of Ole, the store owner.
“Yep, dat’s him,” came the reply.
The traveler couldn’t help but be amused. “He doesn’t look dangerous. Why the sign?”
“Vell,” Ole answered, “before I posted dat, people kept tripping over him.”
Waiting on a big storm. 8 to 12 inches of snow with 60 MPH wind gusts on top of an existing quarter inch of ice glaze. That may melt some before the storm hits, hopefully. Could be worse for DonM and Matt in their areas. Could be 30 plus inches of snow in the UP but I’m not sure if BruceJ gets all of that. Looks worse a little south east of him. We have plenty of bare ground right now. It was good while it lasted. Sure glad I got the snow blower carb straightened out last week.
We had one pass yesterday. Blocked roads and railroads from knocked down trees all over in the upper 2/3 of our country.
Big parts of my lots look like this today ![]()
Wow, you are going to have to setup your sawmill again. The rest is heating fuel and DOW fuel. Some people see it as a big mess but it is a blessing laying on the ground.
Bob, I will certainly mill some. Unfortunately this “blessing” was more than I could possibly ask for. I’m sorry to say that even if I quit my job I’d be busy longer than the sawlogs keep healthy. I will be forced to share some fun with the big harvester boys. There will still be plenty of scrap left for me.
Sorry to see this JO, now i feel like a shit after cursing the storm for stealing a cheap tarp i had covering a engine…
Ugh, it doesn’t look good at all, are the edges blown away by the wind or entire areas?
It’s dangerous to go into such windfalls, you never know what’s going to happen, haven’t checked our forest yet, but I don’t think there was that much down here.
JO, I’m sorry for the damage caused by the storm, I hope you didn’t suffer any damage to your facilities. In our country, storms take their “toll” almost every year and cause a lot of work for me and Fergi.
Jan, it’s a little bit of both. I still have’t checked everywhere, but best I can tell it’s probably about 150 trees worth milling + pulpwood and fuelwood.
Tone, if you mean my own buildings, I’m happy to say not much. I’ve replaced a few tiles today and a roof-ridge board and tin on the river cabin. Other than that we’ve been lucky. Several houses around here have had tress falling down onto their porches and roofs.
We were a bit nervous yesterday though. Youngest daughter and her family were on their way from the west coast, but we insisted they stop 2/3 home (in Örebro), and they did. Helmer was delighted to spend the night at a hotell eating pizza and watch cartoons. The little one not so much - he was busy consuming dipers
They did the right thing though - just minutes after checking in, the road was closed.
Not the best time of the year for this to happen . We had lots and lots of rain last week. My sepic tank alarm on my system came in, so I manualy pumped it down. A day later it came in again so I pumped it down again… I was thinking it was ground water gettin into my tanks because of all the rain we had. Nope, it seems my 4 discharge lines are pluged up so the auto mode is not working on the timed pumping when it is in on auto mode. The past few days I have manually pumping the septic system daily to keep it from over flowing the tank where the pump is in tank and discharges out.
It is written to praise God in all things. So that is what I am doing.
I had to dig the 4 end line discharge boxes out to day. And yes the ground was frozen 5" on top. I got a great work out on my body with a pick and shovel today. I am ready for the roter-rooter man to clean the 4 lines out tomorrow and do some servicing on the pumping side of the septic system.
Praise Yehovah Almighty God that this winter has been so different than last winter, with no snow so far on the ground this year. At 2000 feet higher there is snow in the foot hills or mountains.
We use a product called Septic Shock and it supposedly has bacteria and enzymes and clean up drain fields. I also use stuff like ridx or drainpig?, I vary them because I doubt they all have the same bacteria, and I will open a packet and put a bit in all the drains like once a year.
I don’t follow the 'recommended schedule. I do the septic shock maybe one bottle 1-2x a year, and the other stuff once every couple of months. OR any sign of any issue that -may- be related. slow drain, slow flush, back pressure noise, etc.)
When I was a kid my Dad would throw a small dead animal, rabbit, squirrel, in septic tank to start or maintain.
It actually isn’t a bad idea, it just needs to be a bit more rank smelling then I want in the house or even handle. The old guy that used to pump out the tank used to recommend it. The last time it was pumped I joked about a dead cat in it. The guy pumping, quickly stopped talking to me and rushed to finish the job. I guess that is the difference between knowing and loving what you do, and just doing a job.
Since it is all anaerobic, it is similar to the korean natural farming methods like bokashi, which uses a lot of bacillus bacteria, which is also used in probiotics… which is now making me wonder what bacteria they put in the septic packets since I think I went down that rabbit hole before and didn’t find much.
Happy New Year!!! I know the European folks are a couple hours ahead, and probably getting ready to shoot off fireworks, have big fires or shoot off shotguns, or whatever they do besides eat and drink to stay warm on this holiday. ![]()
Happy New Year my friends!
May you all have a great 2026, with health, fun, woodgas, and all there is.
