Mike LaRosa .. Linden Wisconsin

Mike, I happened upon that little gas bag video you posted in January. I could not find anything about gas bags when searching this website. I am trying out A gas bag on my woodrat Rod build. I am hoping to get a faster get away. lol.

John, I used to use a 55 gallon drum with the lid just taped on in case of xplosion. I would get around 9 seconds of reserve gas for accelerating after a stop sign and for passing on the highway. My old pictures are gone off the web now or I would send a link. I ran the hot gas right into the drum and had my cyclone after the drum if I recall right. That truck has a 4.3 liter in it. I think I had it in my truck when I drove to Waynes several years ago. It worked well … He might have pictures … I just use a large filter now … Make sure it has a pop off valve !!! … I think it was Jim in Texas that had one explode … I put the lid on my filter with duct tape and put aluminum tape over that to keep the duct tape from breaking down in sunlight … I just cut the lid off with a knife and replace the tape. Regards, Mike LaRosa

Hey Mike I do remember your 55 gallon drum filled with gas. But when planning my gasbag I could not figure out how to get the gas out of it without crushing the drum. But I suppose yours being in line with the gasifier you would be refilling the drum with new wood gas.
At the end of your nine second power burst how was the performance?

Hi John, I forgot your son’s name. Fill me back in … I would pull out from a stop sign and go around 200 or 300 feet before the power would drop off but it would recover in a few seconds. On passing, the gasifier was always pulling hard anyway so it was just an extra burst so to speak as it recovered fast. I used the drum as a settling bowl so would vacuum it out from time to time. I had it up to 700F one time on a hill here and had to pull over so all the paint wouldn’t burn off. I had 2 gasifiers on that truck and occasionally one hose would get an air leak and it would burn in the hoses … I still want to come up and visit some time … I’d like to see your “house” … Mike

OK. We’re going to do it this summer or spring even. My son Jeremy is living on the place now so I presume he will still be there when you come.
Woodgas is a blast! For sure.

You’re correct that the crony system isn’t working, but socialism isn’t the cure.

I know that we try to steer clear of politics on this forum, however I would remark briefly on this topic. It seems to me that we are always presented with a false choice between supposed opposites (such as socialism vs. capitalism, democrat vs. republican, left vs. right, etc.). IMO, this misses the point, and is probably an intentional distraction.

All political systems throughout history tend to produce massive inequalities in wealth and power that follow a pareto distribution. This was just as true in the old Soviet Union (central party officials with their Dacha’s in the country and special cars and driving lanes) as it is in the most “capitalist” country.

However, the real common denominator is authoritarian statism and centralization. Political centralization goes hand in hand with declining personal liberty, declining initiative and innovation, and declining satisfaction with the state of things. This is just as true under “state capitalism” as it is with “state socialism.”

While the US might have been founded on some flowery ideas about individual rights, individual freedom, voluntary association, and limited government, the reality is that all of this was thrown in the dustbin rather quickly. Now, it is just empty rhetoric. Well over 50% of GDP is allocated politically in this country through the stifling corporatist/regulatory state.

Thank you for your comments Jason and Kyle!! Anyone that gives Socialism the time of day doesn’t understand IT and what It leads to, besides it is just like kicking every Veteran that has went to war to fight It right square in the teeth!!! I personally resent it very much!!!
America has it’s problems but it is still the most wonderful country on Gods green earth! If you don’t like it you are welcome to leave!! Herb H
