I created a flare, however it cant sustain it self maybe adjust air flow as well as more feed
Hi John,
for startup the gasifier has to be filled with 2/3 of the height, from the grate upwards, with charcoal, 1 /3 of the height ( on the top )with normal gasifier fuel.
At startup this charcoal will build a nice glowing layer of carbon, where as the glowing carbon is turning all the smoke into gasifier gas.
If your gasifier can’t start with good charcoal, then the search has to focus on other problems, most common are airleaks
There is an awful lot of smoke not burning in the flare. Maybe this is steam? Is the fuel perfectly dry?
You can check this with a bottle of cold water held in the flow (without igniting it). If you get a bunch of condensation, you will know there is a lot of steam. This will cool the combustion and make flaring more difficult.
