It probably is fine. With a 3x increase in gas volume and the lack of any tars may be an indication it is getting to much oxygen in the retort? It seems like it would burn hotter and some of the gas. or just the opposite and it isn’t getting enough air like a plugged/melted nozzle, and it needs the extra suction pressure to draw enough air in. I assume you checked this already.
Do you have a pressure monitor on your gasifier? It should come up with more or less suction.
Could it be that the choke wire slipped in the fastener or something got bent so it only seems as you have to open up to give it more air but in reality the choke is normal? Just a different position in the cab.
Johan, it doesn’t seem like anything is loose. I have a vacuum gauge on the filter in and out but I don’t see any difference from usual. Today it was as usual again, only 1 cm of air pulled out.
Why do you have 3 clamps? Also I can’t see through the goop, so I am not sure if this is what you have. I was told to never put the clamps right at the edge of the hose because they leak, slide off or the hose cracks under it.
I have a thin sheet metal rolled around the pipes, there is a joint on the pipe there, I have tried to seal it with assembly paste and silicone, but the silicone can’t withstand the heat.
I would try flexible repair pipe for mufflers. It comes in a couple different diameters and it isnt super expensive. It comes in 6ft rolls, you might be able to find a repair shop or someone with the foot you need.
Edit: You may have to order it online from like amazon US as Europe doesn’t allow cars on the road long enough for the tailpipes to rust out.
Are those soap bubbles, Jan? Does that joint need to flex? Seems like to many areas to try and keep sealed. The clamps you showed may work if you could wrap the joint in muffler tape and still get the clamp over the joint. Wouldn’t be flexible though.
Yes, it’s soap bubbles, I couldn’t get this joint so I’ll try another one, if it doesn’t work I’ll have to weld or solder the joint,
Maybe I should try that tape you suggested first, that’s probably a good idea.
