Woodrunner Volvo's

Your input here is very welcome Tone.
Keep writing
I’ve been thinking, only little yet on the basic construction, and you’re right, same cross-section is something im aim at.
And some kind of heat exchanger, maybe double-double walls, with small gas passage between.
Exhaust heating i can see the benefits of, but in my case i think it would be too cumbersome, because of the distance between engine and gasifier.
Water-cooled condensation zone i think not is necessary in my case, because wind draft would be good enough, but on a tractor or a “built-in gasifier” i see it would be a very good option.
This is my thinking at the moment, but time will tell, and materials available.

It’s probably two things Goran. One is all the sparks you must be making dragging that reactor on the pavement and the second is that they can’t harass the immigrants so that only leaves real citizens for them to practice on.

Thanks Goran, … a heat exchanger that recovers energy directly at the hot gas outlet and transfers it to the incoming air, … however I think about it, the simplest and most effective solution is a “vertical grate”, although there is some welding, but the effort is worth it.
Energy, for the course of pyrolysis and preheating of pyrolysis gases, … this effect comes to the fore at a high load, … think about it, if you insulate the exhaust pipe a little, the speed of the exhaust gases is high, you get a good effect. It should be said here that it is good to have a flap that you could open and the gases would travel directly through the exhaust pipe out, this would be controlled by some kind of thermal element with a value of about 300 ° C. This jacket for heating with exhaust gases could serve in cases where the load is suddenly reduced to a minimum, when overpressure is created in the gasifier, when exhaust gases are released into the environment, as a combustion chamber for “excess” wood gas (small fan, gas-air mixer, spark plug), … thus it would forcibly increase gas consumption, but return this energy to the process…

Oh, that didn’t sound good, what did they have to say about you driving on gas, was that what they thought was illegal?

Well, they wanted to prove woodgas was illegal, but couldn’t, only their mentor/supervisor understand, and told them to calm down, he even fully accepted the fact the gasifier was “secured load” (fast förankrad last) hanging on the towball. :grinning:
Sometimes i get a little “bitter” as i know those newbie city folks just judge me because im a man in dirty working clothes, driving a old, scrappy vehicle, that looks odd to them.
One of them asked if i carried illegal guns or drugs, like this would be thw best car to not raise any attention? :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Interesting, do you think I need to have the car inspected with gengas?
Edit: You got a thumbs up from my wife, aspirants are not to be trifled with.

I don’t think you need that, gasifier on a truck is nothing they can complain about.
The worst that could happen is they give you a request for inspection.
And your cops seems much nicer than down here… only 5km from where i work they have a big training center- lots of cocky trainees…

I saw your new video Goran. I’m giving you a ticket for a crappy windshield. I could barely see where we were going.

Ha, if they had pulled me over in that one, i’ve probably ended up in jail, or got one of them nice jackets with straps that make one hug himself…
Well, i really should clear that moss of the windshield, atleast.

I was trying to think of something to intrigue them. And then switch the conversation from confrontational to educational. I am just trying to figure out what to say on the flyer that you hand them.

“oh yeah, I haven’t seen you before, you must be new! glad to meet you! I see you are intrigued by my contraption? Oh yeah it has a long storied history with our proud swedish heritage! hand them a flyer I don’t have time to fully explain it to you right now, but you are more then welcome to join us at a woodgas meetup and I will be happy to explain it then and help you get started!”

Our police are usually pretty frugal so you might actually get some interest from them.

Maybe you could regesture the car in your wife’s name and then tell them she letting you drive it. They would then let you go thinking she is a really smart and knowlegable women.

Just to let you know she must be start women, she married you, just needed to make that clear.

Keepi’n up…
Volvo inspected yesterday (without gasifier) not much, 3 “remarks”, one small rust hole close to left front wheel suspension support arm, one small crack in a rear reflex reflector.
And i wasn’t allowed to have my mixer in place
Not even not-connected,
but no troubles, 20 mins of welding, and show it again.
I’ve already asked around among some plumbing companies i know, for stainless water heaters and like

Thanks Robert.
well i don’t know about that… that i didn’t scared her away?

Now i need a little help from my American friends, what do you call the universal exhaust pipe bends that passes over rear axle?
Google translate doesn’t help, and that *☆¤÷ai keeps interfere…
Im looking to order some for the Chevrolet, and what can be bought in store in Sweden is a joke, only about 2 inches “dip” free space…

I’ve always heard it called the tail pipe, I forget are you running a single exhaust or a dual exhaust?

Maybe look up mandrel bent tail pipe?

Thanks Cody, i run dual exhaust, the rear pipes rusted away, and i welded them together, let a 4" pipe end in front of left rear tire (side exhaust) but now the rest has rotted away, including the mufflers (I’ve lost a perfectly good magneto flashlight in one of the mufflers, says something about the size of the holes?)
When searching “mandrel bent…” I’ve found some of them “upside-down U-shaped” pipes, together with some 90° elbows it will be a easy fix to build away over the axle.
Now just to afford some mufflers (not to effective).

Fixed the stuff on the Volvo today, now it will pass inspection as soon i get a appointment.

I pulled the mixer, and put back the plastic elbow.
Not that much soot in there as i expected, filter seems to work well, still. Edit: the runny stuff was not tar, it’s oil from crankcase ventilation
I forgot to snap pic’s of the rust repair, but it was no work of art anyway.

It was in time to start rebuilding the gasifier stuff, when i checked, the upper “attachment point” has started ripping off the welding points, much due to the bumpy gravel road i drive daily.
I pulled all this iron out, next gasifier will sit in the trunk.

I guess they won’t let you just use glass packed cherry bomb resonators. Maybe you could make a tractor style muffler?

Glass pack’s is okay, only thing that matters is there is some “can’s” on the pipe, i’ve even had mufflers with a straight pipe through them.
Cherry bombs would be perfect, but they are too cool for Swedes, therefore they are double the price of cheapo universal mufflers.
