Diesel conversion to 100% chargas (pasquali project)

Now you can easily measure the volume of the compression chamber, assemble the cylinder, piston and cylinder head, you can use grease for sealing. Pour water inside and you have an accurate figure for the size of the compression chamber, if CR is 1:17 the volume is 44 cc, if CR is 1:20 the volume is 37 cc. This difference is made by a 0.9 mm gasket, well, if you want CR 1:13, you need a 3 mm thick gasket.

Doing your assembled volume measurement use a light oil instead of water. The residue film left will protect the metals. And you will have less leakage past the piston rings.
Tilt the whole engine to have the open injector hole up; at the highest point. Bang on the engine assembly with a length of wood to shake loose any air bubbles.

I put a pressure gauge on the assembled engine and crank it over and get the compression pressure. Just divide that number by the atmospheric pressure and there is your static compression ratio. For gas engines, block open the throttle valve.
Compression ratio is irrelevant. Compression pressure and combustion pressure is what matters.

Tone kinda hinted around at the most important thing, flame speed. Too much hydrogen, and the flame speed goes up and creates a pressure wave that destroys engine parts.

Some time ago we talked about charcoal gasification, at that time I said I would draw a sketch…
Well, this is the idea I have at the moment… preheating the air in the lower part only by the fins that are welded on the lower part of the hot zone, a hot zone with 6 nozzles that is shaped like an umbrella

yesterday we loaded heavy oak pieces in the afternoon heat…here the new old tool from göran would have been useful…we must buid one…
the motor has had good performance though hot air , driving uphill…my son is so enthusiastic that he made this chargassport also in the heat!

besides this a historic question: in the swiss gengas book is told that diesels for spark ignition should be lowered to a cr 9:1, 10:1…
have they had not so strong high tension ignition systems?

and another question…some days ago the pasquali was not more to start…we suspected reused coal with lack of hydrogen…but was not so, also we suspected the great heat actually that influences somehow with the high compression when trying starting…controlled also the magneto, it comes out that there is a disturb in the stop interrupter system, that i can command from the steering column…disconnected the wires, the motor starts immediately,.
when disconnected mass (blue ) wire, and i touch the connection point ( where coilwire, capacitor and breaker arm is connected) with the brown wire, what was also connected there, it disturbs immediately the motor ignition, makes sparks there …what can be the reason? the system works well when we installed it…makes it a mass connection through the capacitor??

tone was so friendly to post a sketch of a charcoal gasifier with air preheating…interesting design, especially for charcoal gasifiers in frost climates- greetings to thierry trigaux- because it needs no water cooled nozzle, and also the double mantle makes sense as heat exchanger and gas cooler…
with cold winter air the air expansion and therefore the speed of incoming air with preheating is probably stronger and should protect the nozzles…
also on the side in direction to the double mantle could be heat exchanging fins…

Giorgio, regarding the above question regarding ignition and your statements, I would conclude that the problem is in the cable itself, which you additionally installed to turn off the engine, perhaps the insulation is damaged in a certain part and occasionally there is contact between the wires,…

tone, i have controlled the wire and switch with the multimeter, diode test, seems all ok…also with disconnected mass - minus polarity, the other wire positive polarity, when connected or touched on the connection part, disturbs the ignition…
for testing the wire first i have disconnected minus polarity from the magneto housing, than should be all ok, the circuit is interrupted and should not can disturb, but was not so…my son says remove all two connections for to see if it is the stop system, but i thought disconnected minus wire would be enough…so we checked magneto , changed coil ecc…
when hay time was sometimes the engine not starts immediately, there bagan the disturb, needs two or three times starting…we suspected to wet gas in the moment because of the new water system in the filter…
i must find the error, because the electric stop is important for safety…in the moment is all disconnected, the motor starts at the first attempt…

To turn off the engine, instead of an electrical connection to the magnet, you can install a manual valve on the green gas pipe, which will close the gas flow to the engine, … I think this method is better for you … :grinning:

this i have on my motorcultivators…with a wire i can open the start valve near the throttle…mixture is not more right than and the motor stops

Giorgio, l see we both have the same engine on our tractors. Perhaps l too will follow your footsteps one day…

kristijan, we haved missed you, thought about how you are, but not liked to ask how and why…family, work ecc, free time for experiences is not much…
for modifying the motor…first steps looking in the kitchen for a gear from the noodle machine…
the whole modification is not so difficult, only needs a bit time, adjusting of compression is easy at this motor ecc…and the whole life not buying diesel more…
have you built haystacks again this year?

That’s right, Georgio. I’ve been thinking a lot of my travel companion as well, but didn’t want to disturb a busy man. Back when we seemed to have plenty of time we used to correspond almost daily, which was maybe overkill  But nowdays there seems to always be something. Kristijan, if you read this and have a couple minutes, please post and tell us what you’re up to. And you know what we think about pics and vids, right?

Thanks guys, indeed, lm way behind all the posts on the site but am slowly chewing trugh them now. Will take a while, l dont want to miss anything thugh.
Giorgio, l have! A smaller one thugh…

JO, just yesterday brother and l were talking about you and our adventure, he was in the US last month too. They also almost lost a wheel in a pothole😄
Thanks for the concern, life took a bit of a turn so no retirement yet, but everything is fine. Will post a bit more on my thread. With pics and vids😉
