There is no rubber used in tires any more. Rubber is a variable, that changes with different seasons and how the trees grow. Also the harvesting is not consistent. So tires use synthetics exclusively. TomC
I thought they still used natural rubber for airplane tires. Otherwise I agree it is all synthetic and has been for decades.
The off-gassing is what I would be most concerned about, even 3d printers can off-gas stuff you don’t want to breathe, and they are only melting the plastic.
I am concerned about any retort system, it seems to me likely that not all the material will be subject to equal destructive temperatures. Look at what happens in making charcoal. That makes it likely that toxins will be produced.
The only system I would trust without pushing a lot of technology at it is a downdraft gasifier, that is guaranteed to subject everything to consistent destructive temperatures. Hopper residue and ventilation could still be a concern unless final burn is on pure biomass.
