Good to hear just the barn roof needs repair!! Close call glad you all are safe.
Wayne how many feet did it tear loose, man that must have been a bad one. And like all the rest here said thank goodness you and your family a Okay!
Thanks to all for the concern. Yes no one was hurt and that is important.
I wasn’t the only one hit and lot reports of wind damage in the county . The schools are closed today because of the wind yesterday.
Thanks
Wayne
Morning Mr Wayne
Grrr. Wind! “Sometimes you get the Bear. And sometimes the BEAR gets you!”
I slept on this with something trying to pop out of my mind. And then went back and looked through your picture sets. You have ridge caps on the green metal roofs of your house and car-shed, car port. No ridge caps on your out buildings. Is this to save the frame work sacrificing the metal as tear-off, blow off panels?
We do both ways here too.
Regards
Steve Unruh
not just the cows will keep you busy. Mother nature & cridders, those are two things that are hard to deal with. O yea women too:) Glad every thing is Ok with the family.
I think I saw your neighbors farm on our news. Lots of folks affected. On another note I recieved my SECOND Flip camera today from Ebay, and it won’t turn on just like the first one. You guys ever have this trouble?
Morning Carl ,
I used a paper clip to reset my camera a couple of times. I was about to through it away before I learn this.
Good Morning Mr. Steve.
I did have ridge caps but didn’t help.
The hay barn is like a long tube with open ends . I have used hay out of both ends leaving hay stacked almost to the roof in the middle . The wind had a big opening to get in the barn but had nowhere to go then vented by taking some of the roof off. ( pressure inside the barn forcing out)
I started a new topic on your barn Wayne. It took 10 minutes for me to get to the end of this topic (page 5) with the dialup to see it’s already been covered. Lisa told me she watched it happen as you went down to pick up Tally at the end of the drive and you missed it. Good thing anyway as flying steel is nothing to be around. I had a whole roof from a house come spinning and crashed on a car about 200 feet from me as I was talking with a guy on our street in Buffalo, New York. The winds were around 70 mph and the new roofing was blowing off the 6 story high and full city block National Guard Armory across the street from my house. Best I could figure is the roof came from the Canada side of Lake Erie / Niagara River. We heard the crackling and looked up in disbelief as it came over the Armory and was spinning and then smashed that station wagon. Hope someone will help you get all that metal back in place. I hope you didn’t lose all that stuff you had for that side extension as I’m sure the flying stuff got bent up some … Mike
Hey Mikie,
Thanks for the comments , thoughts and concerns but the barn will have to wait a while.
Back before Christmas I promised some folks to have wood sawed for them before spring. Tried real hard to keep that commitment . Still muddy in the woods and got the v-10 with trailer and logs stuck twice yesterday but pulled it free with the tractor. Sawed yesterday and today and only like 11 more boards having the 250 I promised. While the slabs, limbs and scrap are green me and the wife chucked it. While it is green one can make alot better time with the chucker.
Also the fences are down and I have got to get to them before the barn rebuild . Not so urgent for the cows that have been on this place for a while because they remember where the fence used to be but I brought several here from another pasture over the weekend and they don’t know where the fences were or the property lines.
I will need a lot of wood for the barn rebuild so I know it will take several days of logging and sawing .
Mike just a small bump in the road. Life is good.
Wayne
Yes Wayne, Life is good … Glad you can handle it all (or take it in stride). What you don’t use you lose. Of course you can just move bales under the areas where there is a roof left … Tack down the ones that are left. Know what I mean Vern ?? It is 12 degrees and headed down here at 9PM DST … I was pretty impressed at how you could have cows all over like that with no fences. Of course your property is the only one with grass and that occasional hay bale and mineral block lets them know where home is :o) . No reason to stray. I wish it would thaw out so I could get back to work on my projects but I will also have to get a pile of surveying done. I hope this shingles thing doesn’t get much worse. I feel fine but everything hurts … Don’t touch my ribs :o) My back is starting to feel better so it is moving out I hope … M

Hi group,
I decided to take a break from gasification this winter. That doesn’t mean I stayed away from fire. I had fun building a masonry heater. I got back from a short vacation last week ready to see how my truck survived the winter. It’s been raining everyday and expected to keep on raining another week!
Upgrades planned for the truck this year are.
- Double my filter drum.
- Make a positive seal for the blower bypass valve.
- Make a way to blow out/burn out my intake.
- Open my restriction to 4-4.25"
Wayne, are you planning on bringing a stash of your books for sale at Argos? I would love to pick up a copy!
Terry,
What can you tell me about building a masonry stove? I am planning a new home and want one built ( or build one myself ) in the middle of the great room. Any information would be great.
carson
Carson, thanks for the interest. I sent you an email with specifics.
Terry
Hello Terry,
Real good to hear from you and looking forward to seeing you again. Enjoyed seeing your mower do tricks last year . I believe you took the show.
Yes we will bring some books to Argos
Thanks
Wayne
Spring is here and I thought I’d share a little of what’s going on out here. We are sprouting our garden inside and getting our “getaway” ready for summer camping. I don’t have pics of them yet, but the elk come through our camp in the evenings when they’re in rut. It’s a protected herd so I can only use my camera to harvest them
Spring also means some great snow on our volcano to play in. My friends and I have these single ski snow machines, a lot different…and more challenging than the average sled. We all ride dirt bikes so it only makes sense to be able to fall over in the snow too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJfocklbQEk&feature=youtu.be

Hey Tim,
You boys have it going on!!
On another note I had a very good visit from Gary Lewis and Tom Reed this morning. Bee farmers from northern Michigan (Cheboygan)
I gave them a ride in the wood burner and they gave me a case of the best honey a biscuit ever saw!!
That sounds like a great trade Wayne! I hear the U.P. of Michigan is the 'bees knees" for the outdoor types.
I wish more people would re-discover how incredible honey is, and how important bees are!
We have hives here at the blueberry farm, they visit me often when I’m working outside :o)
We spent the day spreading drain rock for the ducks, the trucks, and the puddles of muck!
