Congratulations Richard! Now you can enjoy the good times and hand him back when he is crabby or has a pants full; unlike the first time around.

Congrats G-pa Richard!

I got a fair amount of 1/4" mild steel rod stock from the scrap yard the other day. Today, I welded a bunch of it in to a pot stand for my little woodgas back packing camp stove. It is roughly 7.5" tall and 6" diameter hexagon.

With the “tuna can after burner” I can boil a cup of “room temperture” water in under 45 seconds with only a handful of twigs or wood chips.

It’s also strong/stable enough to support a full stock-pot of water on uneven ground.

I just happened to make it perfectly wide and tall enough to go over my “coffee can” updraft stove. The can was actually a “restaurant sized” can of tomato sauce from when my mom was cooking for her community dinner things she does. The can has the top cut off, as normal for extracting the food product, and several holes punched in the bottom rim for air flow/inlets. I think that would be perfect for charcoal grilling, assuming a got a food-grade grate to go over the top.

The piece of perferated stainless I found somewhere and it works well as a heat reflector and windshield.

I made/am canning some veggie curry soup. Most of the stuff is from our own garden.

Home grown from garden: Green garlic (Picture 1), broccoli greens, fava bean leaves, snow pea pods/greens, spinach, walla walla onion, fennel greens/bulb, dill, some carrots, some potatoes, basil, thyme, leeks, and some other things I can’t remember right now.

Store bought: 1 Sweet potato, an old squash, lentils, and spices.

The finished product (picture 2) isn’t that appetizing looking, but it tastes good. I forgot to add coconut milk like I had planned.

Picture 3: Waiting for the pressure to build.

What else is going on? Well, I thought I’d share a picture from my weekend. I got my new speed control hooked up to my train and had a little trial. Can’t wait to put it on the rails…

Got home from work got pieces and parts cut and a little welding done on the Hopper. Wife tells me I’m cooking supper so fried taters an onions green beans and bison were on the menu. After that walked out to the mulberry tree an had a couple handfuls for desert. Watched em cut my brome grass any inhaled big aromas of new mowen hay . Life is good today

It looks like summer has arrived for real . . .

Sorry to miss the hangout Friday. Wife had surgery Thursday, big, hard to fix hernia, 3 hour surgery and very slow recovery. Maybe come home Tuesday. More daily trips to little rock DOW. Bittersweet. Wayne, your tips on hybrid driving have come in handy. The hilly interstate is a challenge.

Sorry to hear that Carl! Hoping for a speedy recovery.

Hope she gets better real soon, Carl.

Hello Carl,

We hope for a quick recovery. We know you enjoy the driving but wish you could do it for another reason.
