Life goes on - Summer 2021

It’s usually the Briggs and techumseh that need the help for some reason :joy: the gx Hondas usually start 2 pulls no problem. Only had 2 issues with the Honda before, one plugged primary jet from an earwig (no idea how that got in the fuel) and one bad spark plugs. Other then that they have been fantastic for me!

Last post I said this whirlpool used more power then charging an electric vehicle .
It has it’s own water heater 13.5 Kw 60 amp 240 and another two 20 amp 110 circuits .
Have not used it in some time and have had much lower electric bill .

Pull start is from snowblower , Had slush in gas tank engine dies empty float bowl , engine dies empty float bowl , break pull start . Engine has 110 volt electric start . So I drag extension cord to snow blower .

rider Lawn mower started with first turn of key . Started mowing lawn then stopped and checked gas , needed gas , Changed battery , oil oil filter last year .

Combination: Portable space heater, Charcoal maker, and tire melter?

Waste oil burner and orchard heater?
How many guesses do I get?

I think it is a Weed burner

Garden weed burner maybe?

Is it some sort of contraption for gopher genocide?

Looks like the lower part is seperate, like a firebox with the hinged latching door…upper feed shoot, with open pipe threads…mobile plastic distillery?

Some time ago you wrote about a woodgas-weed-killer-burner.
This looks a bit like a small steam boiler, so maybe a steam-weed-killer with in a wheelbarrow-style?

Now I am betting on Til to win! :cowboy_hat_face:

Well you did ask, " . . . what this ugly thing is?"

O.K.
It is a man-portable (or wife); solids fuel to gaseous fuel maker.
You did not ask what it was FOR. Meaning the purpose of it’s production. I cannot see Kristijan so bored yet he is making mystery metal yard art.

So more info-hints, please:
Will you be adding an air/gas tight door/cap to the square tube feed chamber?
Is that Tee ended pipe loose? just sitting on the ground? Or attached to the barely visible blackened weld point on the top tank chamber?

Finished using rust converter on boiler tubes . used sock wired to tube to paint inside of boiler tubes .
I first thought of getting rust converter for roof . Roof seems too big of job . I do not want to lose shed roof .

There were many right answers today

I made a woodgas weeder before but then l thod, l touched a flame a thousant times. But when l touch steam, l get a instant regret. It just dumps energy faster. So l went this way this time.

Natural draft was a bit weak so l diverted sbout 15% of steam pressure to run the venturi in the chimney. It works perfectly!

Being fueled with wood its good for garden weeding. But hooked up to a diesel drip its a roaring beast.

Its juat a prototipe thugh. LOADS of thingsto correct but it actualy worksbetter thain l thod!

Oh, and the reward goes to Mike! On the last video you can see it realy is a tire melter

Forgot about the Maytag washing machine that dad gave me. Checked to see what kind of motor it is, luckily it’s a belt driven type. Didn’t pull it out yet but looks like a brushed motor.
I have been rethinking my little diesel truck I’m building and I want to make the drivetrain electric, but keep the diesel single cylinder in there as a powerplant. I’ll have to pull the motor out and see how many RPM I get at 12v and see if it could drive this thing. It’s incredibly lightweight like I had planned. Right now has a 40 tooth #41 chain sprocket on a solid axle. With the 3 speed gearbox in top gear it was 1:1 coming from input to output and running 9 tooth to the 40 tooth, I could move the entire kart truck by rotating the input of the gearbox with one hand on a very small pulley of 3 inches diameter.

Making an electric drivetrain would give me a few benefits. Shorter chain and could mount the electric motor close to the axle. For my rear suspension I’m going with trailer leaf springs like the front, but the solid axle is using pillow block bearings so I’m making a frame just to hold said axle. With the 3 speed gearbox it has now I would have to account for about a 4 foot long chain and the whipping it would do while suspension is moving.
Plus it would be neat to have a crawling 12v powered diesel dynamo utility kart truck thing. I also don’t trust that 3 speed snow blower gearbox with that torquey diesel and it’ll go to probably a motorized bicycle project.
Edit update:
It’s a single phase induction motor. Crud. Oh well, I have a Club Car motor I could use.

Those were good wash machines. I am looking for one around here. They don’t peak out your inverter. I don’t think.they pull much more then 300watts.

I have a 37 year old Troy-bilt rototiller. The engine is long gone. I’ve been thinking about putting some kind of 12 volt electric motor on it to just do a small about of tilling. I talking about maybe 10 minutes at a time. I’m wondering if I could connect a truck starter to it. If not then anyone have a suggestion for something cheap that would do the job?

TomH,
Look for variable speed treadmill drive motors. Any family living in suburban have them sidewalk looking and garage sale looking. The older non-tilt up tread mills get I-want-this -to-just-go-away a lot now.
I know our 12 year old $600 dollar one went for $20. just to be gone. Not one of my wiser investment-buys.

for horsepower you will need 24-48 VDC

Kristijan, I just feel bad about your child not having a bicycle to ride anymore. But I guess you can teach them how to use it. Kids have fun when you teach them how much fun work is. You seem to know this your self.

When I worked for the city years ago the city mechanic was a…I’ll say interesting fellow. Old codgery tinkerer. Build some thing just to build it. But he was a very respectful neighbor and we’ll liked in the neighborhood. He was the kind of guy to wake up and 3am for coffee and be doing yard work at 4. He converted an old gas powered lawn edger to electric with a 24 volt battery and a dump truck starter, onboard charging system. He only needed to edge 2 sidewalks a short distance, but he figured to do it silently to keep the sleeping neighbors happy. Real neat, he built a ground powered mower he towed behind a homemade electric go cart to mow silently too
