Hello Steve, this is an almost abandoned garden from my father-in-law, …or now from my daughter,…some plums, apple trees, walnuts are growing, the plot continues with a small field and a forest. On one side, the neighbor left his plot and a large bush has grown along the entire length of the border, which extends far into this plot, it would be necessary to cut it down and rejuvenate the orchard as well.
I have an LPG (propane/butane) system installed on my lawnmower.
Tone, I like the part of your work you’re doing in your last pic the best
Wayne, you say you have to put your coat on when you watch my winter videos; but I have to strip down to my underpants when I watch yours.
Just glad to be alive, getting able to walk without a cane, and breathe easily now is wonderfulness.
Any day above ground is a good day, welcome to the forum Thomas!
Thank You. Glad to be back. Gotta a lot of scrap wood, several loads of two year old 20 foot logs, 55 gal metal drums, and a whole bunch of questions I can find answers for here. .
Welcome to the forum
It sounds like you have some plans and a little bit of work ahead.
I’m with you Don. I don’t think we’ve had a single day above 70 since the first week of July, but underpants are still enough.
OH. I thought you guys had warmer days. Below 70 would help explain Jan’s problem getting tomatoes to grow. I cannot figure out this summer at all. We have hit a couple of 79’s but no 80 during August. I would have to check my daily journal for June and July but I know it wasn’t sweltering. Very few days humidity wasn’t 70’s and 80’s though. Here’s the real mystery. No swarms of biting deer flies like usual. Just a few. Not a lot of mosquitoes. No cuke beetles, squash bugs or borers or japanese beetles in the garden. Never seen that before. Also plenty of pollinators. Haven’t had that in at least 3 years. If I paid no attention to the news I’d think I was back in Eden.
So you and Don wear underpants ?
Haha!
I didn’t dare to dive into it further, since I know anything to do with underwear can be a delicate subject to some people on your side of the pond. I’m glad you set things straight, Mr Wayne
Normally we hit 80 or above only a handfull of days every summer. This year those days happened in June, even though July is more likely.
When our kid were kids we grew tomatoes and stuff, but always in the greenhouse. Some years a bucket of cherry tomatoes on the porch towards a south wall, but that’s all. We live slightly closer to the north pole than I would have prefered.
I normally post from my phone, anyone ever have trouble uploading pictures? This morning i was going to post a pic. and clicked the upload button and i think i accidently clicked on select all (iv done this before and simply clicked on unselecte all)
Now all my photoes are grayed out and i can not select anything. Tried closing window and even retarting phone.
It keeps comming up the same way, I’m not able to upload any pics.
Phones are for old farts. Babies are using direct telepathy now. I need one of those waterproof wood gas books. Been raining on and off all week.
detroit got hammered with rain like 5". And Detroit Metro airport was flooded. Apparently the Terminal itself is open, you just need waders to get there. although shorts and flip flops appear to work in this video.
Today when my Father in law Frank was leaving the house, he said that he was going to make a big withdrawal from the bank. He asked if we needed some monies. I said sure and he said how much, I quickly answered how about a 1 millon bucks and Dana said make it 2 million. Frank said if he doesn’t come home you will know the withdrawal did not go well. I said we will vist you on visiting days.
He came home and gave Dana and I each 1 million dollars.
Frank is good for his word.
What is your temperature? Also, how much air was in the tank when you starrted? how much gets in when you fill it each time?
Atleast now you can buy a tank of gas and pay the electric bill Bob. Don’t tell the rich men north of Richmond, they’ll be wanting their share of your new bill.
The temperature is the average temperature of the greenhouse with the door open (that is, I haven’t taken time to measure). I would guess probably 90-95F this time of year. Thirty gallon plastic drum, maybe 7gallons empty at the top, probably some air, due to evaporation over the winter and spring. Down to maybe 5 gallons as I’ve been feeding. Filling is through a two-inch standpipe, initially two inches below liquid level, now about 4", to about eight inches above the barrel top. The only air getting is would be dissolved or bubbles in the feed stock. No need to empty yet, but when the time comes, I’ll suck or siphon out the same pipe. Maybe a fancier drain someday, maybe not. No stirring yet—maybe with recycled gas at some point in the future.
A while ago, I had two five-gallon rectangular jugs, one at 70F, one at ~100F. Kept them going for years, initially taking production data, then just for demonstration lectures once a year. The bacterial would just sit there, sometimes for 6-9 months doing nothing. Feed them (“they” especially liked bananas of dubious quality), and a day later the yield would be just about the same volume of gas as there was liquid in the digester. That’s for the 100F jug. The one at 70F would produce just about the same volume, but it would take several days. Great fun, but more grace on His part than skill on my part I think, looking back.
edit: Checked the temperature this morning, near the time of minimum temp. for the day. The cheap IR thermometer said 72F, so I was way off. It’s raining here today, as it is for SteveU, so a measurement this evening may not be typical for the last few weeks.
