Tractor with gas?

Giorgio, the fabric is the sleeve of an old wool coat (100% sheep’s wool), and I used part of the flat surface of the coat to cover the contents of the container with sheep’s wool, and protected the whole thing with a stainless steel mesh on top.

on the metal i see you have a good quantity of umidity in the filter, that is a benefit…

Hello everyone, sorry to interrupt your conversation. I thought this page would be the most appropriate for my question.

I see this on the market. Is a propane MF 135 well suited for conversion to wood gas?

In my opinion, a propane engine is almost an ideal combination with wood gas. You can easily quickly add or remove the proportion of propane if you lack power. Short trips or moving the tractor around the yard can be done on propane,…

When I look at the data for this engine, it is literally identical to a diesel engine, only the engine pistons are different, which reduces its CR to 1:7.5.

Thanks Tone for the information
As I understand it, the air/gas mixture will enter through the intake pipe as usual, and the propane injection system remains the same on the tractor, much like gasoline and wood gas injection on an engine.
Is the propane injection done in the cylinder or in the intake?
compression may be a little low for wood gas?

This is definitely a regular mechanical system for preparing a gas-air mixture, which is prepared in front of the throttle in the intake manifold, here it is easy to change the gas/air ratio by throttling the gas flow. The engine can operate hybridly on wood gas and propane, and the next moment you can completely close the propane,…
CR 1:7.5 is indeed a bit low for wood gas, but it will definitely work quite well, and you also have the option of increasing the CR by installing diesel pistons,…

Do you know up to what compression ratio a propane engine can operate?

My dear wife and son-in-law Jan helped me in the quarry…

Propane can operate in an engine with approximately a CR of 1:11, similar to 100 octane gasoline.

Fergie accumulates “mileage” standing still, slowly biting rocks, resisting nothing and “complaining” nothing, but he prefers to purr at idle, one hour is no problem for him.

Just out of curiousity, what do you do with all the crushed rock? Sell it?
You seem to crush a lot of rocks. I’m glad the fergie works for it on wood gas. That has to save a ton of money.

There has been a lot of rainfall in our area lately, the soil in the potato field was very washed out, I decided to sacrifice another bucket of wood chips to level and loosen the soil a bit… good thing I have a remote-controlled winch

That’s a lot of potatoes Tone. You feeding the village? I can’t believe how far ahead everyone’s growing season is compared to mine. I live right on the 45 degree of latitude so not that far north and planting above ground before June 1st is a gamble that I have lost more than once.

A lot of work for my Fergi, I don’t remember to take pictures of what I’m doing during the day, here’s one picture after the work is finished, and tomorrow I’ll continue ,…

Nice pic, Tone. Hard to determine wether it’s the evening sun or a hopper flame on top of the Fergie’s chimney

fergie smokes a cigaret like his boss after work…only not drinks a evening beer yet

Picture from this afternoon, about 5 tons of cargo over hilly terrain, removing stones from the plot and driving it to another location. Fergie does a lot of heavy work, all on 100% wood gas.
I don’t miss diesel fuel at all, when after a few minutes of warming up and driving at full load, the gas becomes strong, and the tractor develops power equivalent to diesel fuel.

Now you got some more explaining to do. :grinning:

Hello Don, I don’t really understand what you’re interested in, maybe you mean the wood gasifier, which should be on the back of the excavator but it’s not there (yet)? :grinning:

Here, on this plot, there are about 100 m3 of rocks to be removed, these days I’ve removed about 20 m3 (35 t), I still have a lot of work to do, well, it’s not necessary to do all the work this year…

Giorgio, it’s quite hot during the day and I only drink water, but in the evening I like a beer, and the fire and smoke repel the intrusive mosquitoes, … JO, isn’t that prestige… :grinning:
