Hi Herb, Glad to see you are enjoying the thaw and getting stuff done. What do your neighbors think of your “corn dryer” and “well drilling machine, thump thump” ?? I have got my new gasifier built. It is waiting for it’s first burn in. I found a few rust through holes in the water tank base and just brazed them shut. I had to poke at them to bust through but better to find them now than after it’s all assembled and driving. It’s little holes like that that waste your gas and heat up the gas as well when air gets into it while it is still above 457 F … Party on, Mike http://www.intergate.com/~mlarosa/images/woodgas/?M=D
Herb, Really fine work. I especially like the rubber tire stops up on top! Mine is still wearing out chopping blocks. But I did get it installed inside my wood shed, where I can wait out this miserable winter.
Haven’t had any complaints from the neighbors yet Mike, I know I am pushing it so I am careful about when I run the splitter, I run it mostly during the night when everyone is sleeping so they won’t find out!!!
What do you mean “corn drier”, that is a “outhouse wood/fuel drying machine” what would anyone have to complain about, that is a beautiful piece of machinery, don’t you know a fine piece of technology when you see it?
Thanks John, yeah I thought it would be a good thing to make it stop about an inch from hitting bottom, who knows, that may save a finger some day. Talk about loud, I ran it for a while without that rubber, I think I would have some of those complaints Mike was talking about if I would have kept doing that! herb
Well I never thought I would have a Caddy with dual stacks but I do now! They come up off the fans and get the smoke up and away when starting, put that 90 degree bend on the end so rain doesn’t come in as much. Haven’t tried to flair yet, going to save that fun for latter. herb
Herb, “Lookin good Billy Ray” … Trying to get the 2 halves of my new one lined up today … Wish I had my engine hoist inside the trailer … I can lay it down and line things up and then tip it back up. Then of course it tips over a bit at the joint. That is all my back can handle but I see the plan coming together. There is some metal I need to heat and bend yet. I’ll get it done eventually. Hang on to your hat. Winds are picking up … Your wood dryer is real similar to many of the older corn dryers around here which is why I mentioned it. Let’s get together as soon as things thaw out. We will both be busy this summer dealing with the nasties … Mike
Looks good Herb. I can’t imagine you can roll through town unnoticed like the other guys in their wood gas trucks. I would have to guess that car turns heads.
Yeah people do the funniest double takes with that look of wonderment on their faces, I know it is about the strangest combo, I was careful to keep it under 60" wide so just in case it wouldn’t work on the Caddy it would still fit in a PU bed. I think I finally have it done, the stacks complete “the look” I had in mind from the beginning.
We are having a real Blizzard here right now, my Wife works at the High School here in town and they canceled at noon, it is snowing from the NW super hard, O well do it and get it over with.
Before it got bad this morning I started the Caddy and went for a ride, couldn’t resist taking some pictures of the new twin stacks in action. Going to try and flair it when I get brave enough. herb
PS Mike I hope you know I was just kidding in my comment about drier and splitter above!! I’m glad you are making progress on your unit and above all feeling good enough to feel like doing it,
That is pretty cool, but it may take it from someone doing a “double take” to someone having a “heart attack”!!! I’ ll have to try that!!! Very cool.
I’ve messed around with "Street Rods"most of my life and some times at “Rod Runs” after dark riding around you will see some of the guys have glow plugs on the end of their tail pipes and they will rev the engine up and let off of it quick and the glow plugs light up the excess gas coming out the pipes, looks very cool and it can scare the heck out of you!!! herb
Herb, I caught some high speed and enjoyed the smoke. I can’t even find the ground here. I suppose I should take a picture of my 60 Buick so folks can get feel. Looks like we might get some thawing next Friday ?? Stay well, Mike
Thanks everyone, this video is a continuation of the same ride. The hopper is full, it’s lite and hot, values off to fans, open to engine and ready to run.
Can you tell I have a new I phone?
Herb, I’ll try to catch it next time I get by high speed. I lucked out on a stray wifi signal last night. M
PS, anyone going by here that could give me a hand lifting this new one outside ?? There is no place to set it yet but I did manage to find a charcoal stash to light it off … Damn snow and ice … Bring on a thaw …
