Herb, I usually paint everything black so the sun can cook things when not in use. Problem is the charcoal absorbs moisture when things like the air expand and contract and then it evaporates it into the rest of the system. I think you have a garage to pull it into. Maybe leave the hopper lid opened a bit in case it makes vinegar in the filters so that it will have a place to vent off. All of my stuff sits outside and they make condensate no matter what just from the expansion and contraction of the air in the system ā¦ I leave the condensate drains open when not in use . The worst thing I ever did was flush out my hay filter with water a couple of years ago. It never dried out and made so much vinegar that my cyclone simply corroded out from it. I finally had to pull all that rotten slop out of it and refill it. I probably should take the plug out of it soon and make sure it isnāt full of water. I get a lot of water out of my flex hose but rarely see any in the sling trap under the engine ā¦ Good luck in Nashville ā¦ See you the end of the summer if my body doesnāt fall apart again like it did last year this time of year ā¦ Mike
It inside, only one spot to park inside and the āAā has dibs on that. So you think it would fair better to let some air circulate thur the whole system then to leave it sealed up? I can crack it open with out letting rain in!
Herb, I havenāt personally looked over your system yet but one thing I can guarantee is that if you leave it sit more than a few days with any real moisture in it, you will regret it. A couple of months could wreck things. Make sure itās dried out before or will dry out while you are in Nashville. Iām going to check my filter shortly.
My joints are aching like crazy. Itās raining about 40 miles to the south of us ā¦ I have to call Robin Redmond in Maine to if he got washed away by Arthur ā¦
I think you could probably prop open your cleanouts a little and do same with the hopper and it will be fresh as a wh_re in church when you get back. Make sure the gasifier end is parked into the sun ā¦ Mike
Hey Herb, OOPs ā¦ I just opened the drain hole and it looks like it will run for an hour or twoā¦ It smelled good and I just washed my hands off. If it just smells like creosote it is usually OK but if it smells like vinegar watch out . I usually get vinegar from burning oak but I have been running mostly maple and some wood from Ronās pallet mill. I used up Ronās wood on the way home this year ā¦ Mike
Well I ended up pulling all three drain plugs, took ash door off, cracked open hopper lid so air can flow up thru, put wood shims in lower filter clean outs and shimed alum lids open so air can flow up thru filters. We will see how it does!
Leaving here in a little while, probably stay in St Louis tonight and on to Nashville Mon, first appointment tue morn, will know more then!
Hi Herb, Sounds like a plan. Safe trip etc. I have to find and put a larger plug screw in as the current hole rusted out with all that water laying in there. Donāt let the mice in. Mike
Safe travels to you Herb.
I wish you all the best.
Good luck Herb. best wishes.
Denny
Hello Herb ,
We all are with ya !! Please keep us posted on your progress.
On my gasifers if not in use I try to have them gased up ( woodgased ) and then seal them off to keep any oxygen out. I donāt know if I am doing right or wrong ?
Means a lotā¦
Wayne, thanks for your input and that is the way I have understood it and have always tried to run it weekly to keep it āgassed upā. But even on a well sealed unit we canāt expect it to hold gas in for long periods (8wks) of time can we???
I went with āmold canāt grow w/o moisterā school of thought plus what Mike said, hopefully wonāt have to much damage.
Drove little over 500m yesterday, Iām only bout 2-3 hrs out of Nashville. Stayed in Marion Ill last night, should get to Nashville about 2 to check into the nicest motel Iāve ever stayed at, like Iāve said before they treat me very nice!!! I donāt think I deserve it. Yeah I have cancer from agent orange but others have problems too from no fault of there own.
Glad to hear theyāre taking good care of you. I was in Binh Dinh Province 70-71 and am in the Agent Orange Registry, but fortunately still fairly healthy.
Take care. You got ābeaucoup number oneā woodgas rig GI.
Good accommodations make for a better experience. Wishing you the best.
Not much goin on here in Nashville, havenāt done any real serious treatment yet (chemo) just testing to make sure Iām still in remission. Canāt proceed with this kind of cancer until itās confirmed no cancer in my body!!!
Soooo itās back and forth, motel to VA, wife and I do have some time to snope around town but I would rather be playing with the Caddy!!!
Hey Herb, if you confirm a chemo treatment time, let us know because specific prayer is important when itās performed. And youāll get a lot of requests from this great group of guys, BBB
With you Herbā¦
Dick T I forgot to comment but I laughed my butt off when I read ābeaucou number one woodgas rig GIā I havenāt heard that lingo since I left there! Very funny ānowā and a very nice complinment, thanks. We were there about the same time, me March 70 to March 71, longest year of my life, I was in Cameron Bay, worked in the motor pool, machanic/welder but mostly tire fixer and tail/brake light repair on the trucks and buses that hauled new guys in and old guys out going back to āthe worldā from the airport.
Thanks Mike, Bill, Denny, Wayne, Carl, Al and ādidoāsā on that Doug, I will do that, thanks. Herbie
Well Herbie
Youāall keep your shit screwed together tight and hang loose over there.
This time you have the Wife with you.
Regards
Steve Unruh
Yeah Iām still going back and forth from here (Motel) to the VA about 6 blocks from here doing different kinds of testing to make sure I donāt have this darn Cancer back, Wife has been with me on all 4 trips here, I have to have a ācaregiverā for this, they wonāt do it unless I have someone that can be with me 24-7 espiecially when the serious stuff starts happening. Really I have it made here its just not home! O well, it should all be over in about 6-8 weeks, I know Iāve been saying that for the last 6-8 months. Herbie
Iām headed home in the morning! They canāt be sure I am still in remission, without knowing they canāt implant my stem cells. With all of this testing it remains impossible to conclude I donāt have cancer back. With this kind of cancer they have to be sure I am cancer free before I get my stem cells back or it will all be for nothing! So I get to go home!
I will be taking a new (only been aproved since nov 2013) but proven chemo pill that works for some blood cancers including mine, it has been proven to kill cancer cells but not good cells like other chemoās do, I will take them for about 8 weeks and then come back for real chemo and then implantation.
Hi Herb,
At least you get to go home which Iām sure youāre glad about. That new chemo sounds promising, hope it works like itās supposed to. Enjoy the summer,
Rick
