Welcome back to Iowa.
Only 30 days 'till winter.
Living the dream !! Better than my small school bus idea ā¦ I figured to haul bikers around to the gambling casinos etc with a bar in the back ā¦ Too old to do it now ā¦ Sue and I joke about doing meals on wheels ā¦ M
Herb; I saw this and for some reason thought of you.
Hi Tom, Of course I couldnāt do the video but I like the bar on that saw. I had a couple of saws when I was a kid that had at least 4 foot bars on them. They were used out west to cut the bigger trees. I figured to use the engines on go carts ā¦ I could barely pick them up ā¦ I think my father scrapped them ā¦ Snow is sublimating here right now ā¦ I heard my first shot of the day a few minutes ago ā¦ Visibility is around 200 or 300 feet ā¦ My hunting shack is heating up slowly ā¦ Typical opening day ā¦Mike
That thing would be a blast to cut cow patties with, I would like to cut some 24 or bigger to run though my āpower splitterā
Found this old video of the one and only time I flared the Caddy, canāt tell you how nervous/scared I was about lighting it off, I had no idea what was going to happen. Only about the first couple minutes are interesting although I let it go for about an hour!
That is classic DOW in Cadillac style. One of a kind. Did you write to Jay Leno yet?
Iām going to wait till I have my next gasifier going till I get with Lino on trying to sell the Caddy, I donāt want to be without a wood burner very long. Iāve been busy installing a gas furnace in my shop, doctors say I need to avoid smoke as much as possible, I donāt know how thatās going to work out driving a car that runs off of smoke, I think Iām ok as long as I wear a mask!
Just be careful Herb. I have COPD of course. I quit smoking cigarettes on July 7 of 1991and pretty much hung up the hippy stuff in 96 until recently when I found it helps with the nerves in my legs after this paralysis (better to eat it) ā¦ They make some nice candy in California. Hard to get here. Most of what comes out of the hopper is steam. Sure there is a little CO in there. Just hold your breath when you have to ! May your red blood cell count get up there fast !!! :o) Mike
Oh, Herb, We had an ice storm last night. I just put my cleats on to go to my office. Canāt even walk on gravel today ā¦ M
Hey Herb I was always meaning to ask you about your cow patties. Are those fresh cut green wood when you cut them into patties and then power hatchet them. Have you ever tried logs that have been laying a year or so? Would both work or is one better? (dried or fresh cut).
Thanks. PS Hope you are gaining your strength back without setbacks.
Doesnāt seem to make much difference how wet the patties are when splitting although the dryer they are the better the split pieces separate with out that stringyness that the wetter patties have, I think some of that depends on what kind of wood it is too! If I had my choice I would spit dry patties, the chunks are cleaner without the stringy which greatly increases the surfaces area, I would say the less stringyness the better the fuel!
Herb; I see you are on the internet at DOW. How are you feeling. It has been a while since you have updated us TomC
Thanks for checking on me Don, that Stem Cell Transplant kicked my butt, it was the five days of chemo before Transplant that really took my strength but Iām doing good, it took all my hair even whiskers, itās been 70 days and they say it takes a year to get back to normal, Iām doin ok just have to take lots of breaks! It was pretty rough but it beats the alternative!
Happy New Year Everyone!
Glad to hear youāre recovering well Herb. I canāt until youāre full steam again. Iām curious to see what you come up with in your next project. Take care and Happy New Year!
Any body heard from Herb lately? Hope everything is going well.
I talked with him this afternoon ā¦ He says heās doing fine ā¦ He is dealing with the same snowstorm as us ā¦ It should be about done at his place aside from the wind ā¦ Regards, Mike LaRosa
Just taking it easy, just got a new plasma cutter been messing around with that and now dealing with about a foot of new snow, nobody with good sense would live here! Thanks for checking in!
Herb, did I hear you say something a while back that your cow pie saw bit the dust?
Thanks Mike for the quick responseā¦And good to here your doing good Herb, hope your enjoying that new plasma cutter.
