Companion video to screw chipper creator, I believe is a quick tour of his substantial woodgas power plant:

Only thing wrong with the picture is he must have washed his face cause the tabaccy juice isn’t running out the corner of his mouth. :yum:

What’s wrong with the engine when it running so unevenly, is it ignition or carburetor?

Pull your spark plugs. Should tell you if one cylinder isn’t firing. Ignition.

Thanks for the tip, I took the carburettor home and cleaned it again, and I think it turned out well, the carburettor has been in trouble for a long time, there was rust in the tank before, I have changed to a plastic tank now, but it seems to be still rust somewhere.

Maybe the old steel lines are rusting?

I think I’ve found a cost effective way to dry my wood. I have two 6ft truck bedliners one from a GM truck and one off of my Mazda. I can make a frame to hold up the shape of the liners and make a roof of the plastic corrugated sheet that overhangs on all sides to prevent water dripping in. The liners already have holes made for the strap mounts so there’s my ventilation.

Black inside box plus clear roof equals a redneck Easy Bake Oven for wood. I can chunk or sawcut my pieces into the liners and lay the corrugated roof over to let them bake and not worry too much about rain.

As soon as I take my 8ft liner out of my Sierra I’ll have another one, I hate how it holds water and the drain holes get plugged up.

I’ve seen home made lumber drying kilns with hooped frames covered with black plastic. Regular convection wasn’t enough to pull the evaporated moisture out of the tunnel. They only worked at all with a good size fan blowing through the spaced stacks of wood. Just saying.

I might have to use some solar powered fans to blow air into it. Going to leave the big opening for the tailgate area alone so it can blow out. Won’t know until I try it, maybe angle it a little so any condensation can drip out along the roof

It’ll basically be like how Wayne dries his out in the sun on a tarp, but with a rain cover incase I’m lazy and forget to gather it up

I have a lot of motor fuel already but hard to let this sawmill slabs pass me by.

I get paid for sawing folks timber and they furnish me with motor fuel also. How sweet it is .

Woodpile was getting out of hand

That was my longest run on the chunker, just under 3 hrs. Found the first weak spot, motor mount cracked and lost belt tention in the first five minutes. Removed the motor welded it up and pressed on. Now to bag it all up

And all of that wood used to go into a dumpster?
You are the MAN!

I felt a bit like JO and Wayne today when I tried to make wood on a little wetter birch, but then I came to think that they have Walter and Lisa, to help all the time, so is probably more like Marcus, but it went a little better with wet wood.

A helper sure would be nice for chunking days! I make a royal mess of the shop every time

Jan, beautiful pictures!
I envy you having so much fun on such a nice day. I wish I didn’t chunk that much during fall
The nice weather made me plod up the mountain. Carrying the chainsaw and all the Christmas food still around my waist, the crusty snow didn’t hold my weight. After punching through a foot of crust uphill for half a mile I was beat. Didn’t get much done. I delimbed a few trees knocked down by the storm, but all-in-all it was still a nice day in the sun. I wish I had brought coffee and a sandwich - maybe next time.

Jo have you tried the smaller style snow shoes they make now. Might not work around trees when delimbing but to get to the spot with a chainsaw it would help. Mine have quick release staps for taking them off and on.
