I haven’t been able to grow corn for three years now, Don. About that time someone must have hung out a smorgasbord sign in the swamp with an arrow pointing at my garden. I lose as much as I harvest on most stuff other than potatoes and Tomatoes. A lot of tomatoes get a little damage with holes bored into them and half eaten still on the vine. I think some kind of wasp makes the holes. That doesn’t bother me because I can the vast majority of them. I thought coons were getting the corn as well but a couple years ago the neighbor tried planting popcorn in a bed I pass daily walking the dog and I saw Mr big fat porcupine climbing out of his fenced enclosure. All the popcorn plants broken and laying on the ground. I am going to plant a couple of blocks of corn this year because I want to save the seed from them. They are both varieties that grow less than 6 foot high. I’ll only plant a few 16 sq foot blocks and fence them all the way up and cover the top with clear plastic. A lot of screwing around but I want a good supply of those seeds. They could both be grown in hoop houses. Also since I don’t want them cross pollinating I can cover the fencing temporarily when they start dropping pollen.
shake the pollen off the tassle and pollinate the silk, and cover the ear with a paper bag.
Had a bit of frost this morning when I came out, sprayed water on the vegetables and the potatoes, hope they made it, thought the risk of frost was over.
I have had potatoes recover even if the leaves turned black. We have had frost this late into June a time or two. It’s a heartbreaker but rare. For me it’s going down in the morning and finding Cucumber beetles on all the curcubits.
Yes, there is always something, we have something called iron nights until the 10th of this month, according to old faith, let’s hope the frost is over now.
Realy?? Frost free for almost 2 months here…
Yes, it is strange, we have a lake on either side of the cabin, but there is often frost in late spring (summer) here.
What’s wrong, a cucumber plant is tired during the day, but in the morning it’s healthy again? We have drip irrigation, so shouldn’t there be too little water?
It picks up some moisture during the night? Overhere it is very very dry for over a month. Wind from the east instead of west.
Daytime wilting. Yes I have seen this condition many times too in parts of the summer.
The leafs and stems are losing moisture faster than the plant can uptake and trasport the moisture upwards.
Happens in low humidity, with air movement winds. Can happen on too hot of sunny low humidity days too.
The proof? Set up one of those two micro nozzle misters used for people cooling. Vegetable misting what is done here in grocery stores over the set out displays of succulent vegetables to prevent dehydrating wilt in the lowered humidity air conditioning.
Growths misting only during the sun exposed daytime is something we’ve done here for benefits.
Done at nighttime it encourages molds/rusts and slugs problems.

What Steve sayd. Common in big leaf plants like pumpkin and cucumber.
Its a good thing actualy, in this state a lot of nutrients get pumped trugh the plants sistem. Evaporating water pulling on the roots, in short.
I do however disagree about misting, l got no sciencetific knolidge to back it up but it makes sence to me that where ever there is water, there is life. In the soil is great, anywhere else not so much
Yes, but only one plant is tired, and it’s not the one closest to the window, strange.
Frost again this morning, went out 4:00 and it started freezing, hope it ends soon.
A bit of fun anyway, grouse played in the swamp, on the other side of the lake.
Something might had damaged a portion of its roots.
Just curious if you have a Wi-Fi router or any source of EMF near that window. Admittedly a little Woo but I’m getting very curious about this kind of stuff since my interest in electroculture has been piqued I think there must be also anti-electroculture even in amounts less than proven under electrical transmission lines.
I have been working toward this goal for the last 11 years.
The first hurdle I just finished in the last week, After I went off grid with solar.
I was able to hook up my solar panels directly to my hot water heater and now I have solar hot water yippie!
The next item on my list is food production, I have the excalubur dehydrator, and 2 canners, one is an electric Nesco canner, I set it and walk away and come back to 4 jars canned.
The two main areas I have found with food production is calories and nutrition.
For calories, I use white yam, cassava, sweet potatoes, and taro, and bananas.
For nutrition, I grow moringa tree.
I put in fruit trees years ago, and I am just now starting to get a few fruit on the trees, slowly that food source is increasing.
I put 5 years of food on the shelf as backup, I know I will have bad years, and having a cushion for bad times is just a good plan. I do expect we will be at war with both Russia and China in short order, and inflation is about to go thru the roof.

Cheers.
Wilting normally caused by 3 things.
-
too little / too much water
-
herbicide damage ( from manure or compost ) It is for this reason I make my own compost from wood chips or from plants I grow.
-
virus ( from biting insects, grass hoppers, aphids can inject a virus that can take out your plants, Good to get a magnifying glass and look at the underside of your leaves both at day and at night. You can see many more things that attack your plants at night.
No, no wifi or anything like that, I’ve built the greenhouse against a wall in the outhouse, there’s not even electricity out there.
Yes, I think we have watered too much, but at the same time I think it doesn’t fit because it is good in the morning and tired during the day.
Is this squash? You might also look for vine boarer…
