JO's -91 Mazda B2600

Hey JO .

Pay Kristijan no attention . He is jealous that he never noticed the serial numbers

Mr Wayne, if the representation of the Mexican knot you did on Billy is even remotely to scale, l can only say “guilty as charged” to that

Nothing. The rag did let some hopper juice through, down into the tank - just in a slower rate. A few more hoppers of wood it would probably have been 100% plugged with tar.

I have to admit I will have to sleep on what to say about those other comments

Ok, jokes aside.

Mazda/Ranger 4WD. Front driveshafts.

Inspection is coming up in a couple weeks. I’m replacing upper rockerarm bushings. No problem.

BUT- While I’m at it, the truck is indoors - melted and dried, I thought I’d replace the protecting rubbers on the driveshaft joints. One has been cracked open for a while.
Ball joints and brakes removed and I was about to pull the driveshaft. To my surprice the inner driveshaft joint follows only to a point. It doesn’t want to come out of its tubing.
Every FWD I’ve ever pulled the driveshafts on, the inner joint always came out. Just careful not to drop bearing rollers.
Anyone know if there’s a “flexy safety ring” inside all that grease? Poking with a small hook I can’t feel one.

Hi J.O.
No special tools. Just prybars.
But you need to remove the axle from the hub first for clearances; and to have reasonable removal angles:

→ 3:53 minutes

Thanks Steve, but this ol -91 was obviously a bit different.

Driveshaft came out with just a tiny bit more force.
I may have complicated things, but both sides of the shaft are free now and I can choose which side seems the easiest to pull the joint and get to both rubbers.

Otherwise, you buy a split on a biltema.

Jan,
I checked them out at first, but they don’t fit.

Didn’t get much sleep last night. Mazda inspection this morning :grimacing:
Well, it went almost OK - only one remark - rear right brake worked poorly. Parking brake was good though, so removing the drum and excersizing the cylinder should be enough. Paying another fee to have the fix checked is pita though.

The young inspector told me he owns an old Ford model A with a working gasifier on it. His grand grandfather built it during WW2. Hand cranked blower and everything

You need to pay it again? Here we have one week to fix everithing and proove its fixed but it doesent cost anything once the initial fee was payd.

Also, we have a right to one free unofficial inspection per year, l usualy go and take that before the real inspection, and if its all ok l just pay afterwards and its done. Happened twice so far l think :joy: old junk…

The second fee is a bit cheaper, but still something like 40€. We have a month to fix things though.
Luckily both wood burners are 30+yo and inspection is only every other year. Can’t wait until they are 50 yo and no inspection required

Kristijan, ya’ll recovered from covid? Your “holiday” over with?

We still pay something like 20% for 30yo plus but then you are only alowed to drive 5000km a year and have to enlist in a oldtimers club. And get the car certifyed as an oldtimer, where everything must be spotless and original. Needles to say thats not often the case with those kind of work horses

Kids had a day of rest each, wife got trugh fast but l needed 2 weeks to slowly come up to 90% where l am now. Nothing horibly wrong in the mean time, l just needed to rest after a hour of work and go to sleep for a hour or two after lunch, wich was previously unknown to me  also, there wasnt much interest in performing marridge obligations, wich made the wife most unpleased but thats sorting out too :joy:

Thank God you and the family are all alright healing up and healed up. Will keep you all in prayer for 100% recovery.
This last round with us was not as bad. I still called on YEHOVAH Name and by His Word Yesuha made it through to being healed up.

You had it twice Bob?

Yes, the second time was not as bad as the first. We have a daycare with three grandchildren and moms and dads are out in the general public working can’t help to being exposed to things around here. You will fully recover, that’s my prayers.

Jo, I am a little confused, what is a vehicle inspection?

It’s an evil process to force perfectly working jalopies off of the road to make you buy the new gen cars that go bad in 40,000 miles.

coming from the UK the annual MOT ( ministry of transport ) test was always a pain in the ass , every year without fail it needed a clean bill of health and if there was the slightest thing going to be needed doing in coming months they would fail the car / Bike this is 1 day you have to take off work just to take it in unless you can find a testing station close to where you work , without the MOT you cannot TAX the vehicle to be used on public roads and these days with all the ANPR camera’s you don’t stand a chance of even a quick trip down the road as everything is logged in a national data base , Big Brother is watching ! Moving to Victoria Australia is like winning the lottery , once you register the vehicle and pass an inspection then that’s it as long as you won it it never needs another test … unless of course its a death trap and the cops take it off the road for you

It’s pretty funny here in the US. In my state alone there’s different counties that will always test emissions within the 10 year old phase, then it’s just safety eg lights and structural integrity. In my county we never test emissions, and when the vehicle is over 30 they are exempt but your tax on it goes up because it’s suddenly a “Classic”.

But in South Carolina not even a 30 minute drive away, they never inspect the vehicles, just property tax for the licence plate sticker.

Luckily my Mazda is now exempt but there’s no rule about alternative fueling in the safety inspection anyways. You can pass safety if you lack a windshield but have the wipers, but if you have a crack in your view as the driver it fails immediately.

Similar rules to here in Washington, but no inspections at all anymore just taxes. The pain in my side is anything over 25 years old is taxed as a “classic” or “collectors” vehicle. You can opt for then a “collectors” plate and tabs, which are a buy it once and it’s good forever. But then they place restrictions on the vehicle and it can only be driven x amount of miles yearly, and only to and from car shows or museums. But they have no way to track the milage so if a cop wants to be unpleasant he can hassle you about it. Oh and can’t tow trailers with it unless it is a registered “classic” trailer, which is a whole nother can of worms
