Scroll down. Two articles.
These preemptive power shut offs never used to occur. Only after the active fire.
Because of now successful courts decided settlements in California and Oregon the power companies do this now. I am not making a social-political statement about this. Just pointing out new realities. Roll with the punches. Adapt. Make your own minimal power capabilities.
Because you will need to.

On that note harbor freight sells the kilowatt meters for very cheap and can make for a easy way to asses your 120v power needs. Speaking of which anyone know how big of a inverter is needed to run one of them fancy kirby vacuume blowers??

It depends on the machine the avalir2 appears to draw 7 amps so I would think at least 1700w for startup. And round up to 2000. It actually doesn’t draw as many watts as I thought.

A 2000w inverter would be pretty dang handy to keep in the truck.

Cutting discs of wood out of the small trees I harvested. Really dry, split well. Was cutting them with my miter saw until one of the logs decided to jump back at me and thump me in the gut and crown jewels. Maybe the table saw would be better.

Or build a sliding setup like what CNCMachiningIsFun has.

He has it set up for 2x4s but I’m sure I could make it work for small trees.

Technically the Royal family has zero political power. In theory, things shouldn’t change at all, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have significant influence over affairs. There actually could be some changes.

Finally got around to drying and grinding choke cherries, pits and all, rolling them into little balls for dry storage. Remarkably tasty! I was able to grind the dried cherries in my hand crank Corona grain mill.

Have any season setting frosts yet JohnS?
We are close now. 37F. (3C) this morning. Cold, almost crisp every morning now. Two more hot days over here then we should be done with that.
Mid-September into early November - my favorite time of the year.

The eight year old foster girl added to family bee-sting count last evening. Thigh. And that is a seasonal thing too.
Ain’t no big deal, so long as not the face or neck. Spider bites now - anywhere they become an antibiotic problem. They become cranky aggressive this time of the year.

The paper mill where I “grew up” is being demolished by NorthVolt. They are building three huge battery factories in Sweden. One of them in this ol papermill area. The only thing being spared is the wood powered steam boilers where I work right now. It will power only the local district heating and a turbine from now on.

Tons and tons of ss junk and the demolishing has only begun :star_struck:

Inside the 8 story 130 MW boiler’s sand blaster combustion chamber. The 4 woodchips auger outlets.

I noticed your truck, but you didn’t bring a trailer!! Be a helpful citizen, have them load that up for you and get it out of their way. One of those big long tanks would let you make char out of whole logs! I hope you at least gave them your address.

Thinking about putting in a kitchen boiler and 500 liter acctank, in the summer house.
We have an air source heat pump now which keeps it frost free in the winter, and thought that 500 liters of water could be enough for 1-2 days, so I don’t need to use so much power.
I’ve been looking at this pan, anyone know if it’s any good?

I would look at a solar thermal system if you have a spot for collectors. It might not cover all the heating needs but it should cover some of it which should be overall less time spent dealing with it which I am assuming is the reason for the 2 day tank. It doesn’t mean you are wrong and shouldn’t install the system, but it might buy you an extra day here and there.

It’s for the winter that I need the heat so the water in the house doesn’t freeze.

Right. It is fairly popular for water systems in Sweden. “Typical applications in Sweden are combined domestic hot water and space heating systems in single-family houses and multi-family houses, often in combination with solid wood boilers (i.e., wood chips, logs, pellets, and briquettes).” I suspect they might work better then you think, I would talk to a few people. In this area, the most popular solar thermal is corrugated fiberglass roof in an insulated box with like plexiglass over it and it just heats air. Those systems produce a lot more heat then I expected in february.

You also might give these guys a call because your needs aren’t as precise as what a system would need to be for a commercial home heating project. You also have fabrication skills and an insight on wood boilers and gasification, they might not be very familiar with.

Jan, if you diy to run your car , chunker and the rest why bother to buy something like that? Looks good btw, but you can make it yourself. No doubt about that. Look at Kristijan and he does have an oven.

Just for heating, did you look at a diy drinking can collector? Very nice solution to get some heat in your house without the risk of freezing water.
