Your broken trigger is exactly the kind of problem 3d printers can solve. Alternatively… epoxy the pieces together with reinforcing fiberglass mat on both sides. Call it fixed ;^)
The old saw never looked so good, at least while I owned it. This photo from 2012 was taken on a property walk through and you can see the saw in it. The previous owner left it for us probably because it had no compression and wouldn’t run.
I ordered a new piston/cylinder for it and resurrected it. It still had other issues because it had been beat on, but it ran well enough for the past 14 years to harvest all the firewood I have used. I would have continued to use it, but the wife wanted me to have a more reliable saw. This is mostly because the tree I was cutting is close to a house and where we are often working. She was worried it could fall, but I barely started the notch cut when the trigger broke. I tried to convince her that the tree was completely safe, but I think she didn’t believe me. So, if anyone needs a new saw, I suggest this strategy to convince your significant other.
We also received a shipment of snow, about 30 cm, although the temperatures are “tropical” compared to Sweden, from -5 to -15°C, but there is some winter joy,… ![]()
Has the snow reached central Italy? The Croatian islands are white…
Oh, is this the green beauty that your new gasifier might be feeding wood gas too or is it another that will recieve the honors to have it?
I thought the forklift is the next victim.
Overhere half of Slovenia. Temp still around freezing.
This little thing is doing overtime. Just fun, all day.
Very unusual sight. Long time ago, but I like it.
Not everyone appreciates the weather. This is the city Utrecht last monday. Total infarct ![]()
This was today. Rotterdam was constipated.
Today the boys crossed the country. From the blue dot to Sneek and back. 2,5 hour drive. ![]()
we can do that in one day and be on time for supper. It took Billy a few weeks?
here in the morning only some white powder, water solid frozen, till now no problem…sometimes we have had in the recent decades til 19 -…only the metal projects are suffering, the metal "bites " the hand immediately when touching…but for the seeder is no hurry , is needed than in october…a lot of parts are ready…
We are fortunate. Just cold and wet (with some puddle flooding) down here below 1000 feet.
Want snow here . . . go directly east up to the 3000-4000 foot level. 40 minutes away.
Want salty ocean sand and surf. . . just go two hours west. Day tripped the Taiwan exchange student just last Sunday to be able to touch the ocean and write in the wet sand. Wave to her Mom ~6200 miles across.
And I do make in-place wood charcoal. Then clean combust, burn-it for home heating:
Life is good. As long as you view it sunny-side up.

Worst storm in decades that knocked down a lot of timber followed by a snowstorm that kept snowclearing equipment busy for several days and now a couple calm but crisp days touching -24C (-11F) temps.
Youngest two grandchildren are visiting and Helmer sleeping over. Too cold for outdoor playing in the snow, but he is just as happy getting dressed for and helping out baking bread.
Minimal outdoor activities in these temps. Dogs wanted to take a leak walking with me to the mailbox, but that’s about it.
Vehicles are taking a rest too. Only the Volvo woodburner is parked indoors in the heated garage for emergency use. Days like these I’m greatful my woodheating system is good enough for 100% heating needs no matter temps.
Yes. Best to stay indoors with that temp. Especially with those little pearls.
Here still around freezing. Minus 10 last night. Watertemp into the house is restricted to 45 C/ 113 F. Roomtemp is set to 21 C/ 70 F 24-7. Roomremp drops to 19c/ 66 F. Pump is running 24-7 this way ( i am testing for a heatpump this way). How about your watertemp now?
I actually don’t know. I have radiators in the house and I guess they are at least at 55C (130F) right now to maintain 21C (70F) roomtemp 24/7. The 4m3 storage tank keeps 90C at the top and water returning to the bottom is 30-35. I let the boiler stoke it once a day for a few hours.
The garage however has floor heating in the insulated slab and I feed it only about 20C. Still enough to keep it a few degrees above freezing even in these conditions.
4 m3, that is a lot! DIY? We have 2.25m3 and 0.25m3 sanitair. Empty every day now. Blaze Green is doing a great job compared to the Atmos, the wood storage is twice a big. Giving me some rest, no woodslaving this way… 20 kW boiler. Very happy with it but I dont think it burns cleaner than the Atmos.
Yes it’s DIY. It’s actually two tanks in parallell. One of them has a smaller tapwater tank inside.
I’ve used several combinations over the years until these two particular tanks fell in my lap 20+ years ago. The system has worked excellent ever since.
We got down to seeing patches of bare ground twice so far this month but woke up today to another six inches of white. Actually more overall snow so far than last year which was an ass kicker, but this year is comes and goes. Last year it just kept building up. I put some rubber shoes on the impeller blades of my snowblower a few days ago but must have made them to tight to the walls of the impeller housing because now it won’t spin. I’ll have to take the thing apart again and try and adjust them. Sorry I even started that project. It worked good enough before. Door in my work area is not big enough to let the snowblower in so I have to stand out in the cold to mess with it. ![]()
good luck with that. As the years go by, i more and more appreciate a heated shop.
I tried yesterday at -24C (-10F) to heat the well cooled-out workshop with the woodstove my dad made in the eighties for that space. Spent 7 hours tending the fire and got it up to a good 14C (57F) just to run out of steam and not even going in there. ![]()
The house is warm though, wood boiler running at the moment and considering starting the fireplace in the living room. 54C (129F)to the radiators right now
Everything around here was completely melted and in like the 40s. I was actually wondering if I should be tapping the maple trees. we got some snow again but only like 2"… There are some people that made some already this year…
