I just learned that you can see the northern lights much more clearly through the phone, our new neighbors from the Netherlands show the northern lights on their website but we who live next door have seen almost nothing at all.
Finally, I am getting my firewood under cover in the woodshed. Not long till it is full for the coming winter - probably 5 hours work.
The powered cart is a godsend. I can almost double the amount of wood transferred per hour. The cart holds about 5 wheelbarrow loads and makes moving the wood much easier.
id love to see more detailed pictures of that powered cart looks like something i want to build
Jakob, I posted a thread in the off topic section on its building. You can find it here:
If you would like some specific photos not shown, let me know and I’ll get them for you.
thanks I missed that one but very interesting
Anyone in the US, please stay safe through this weekend storm. Watch the weather closely, stay home if you can. Check on elderly folks. We’re getting a huge ice and snow storm over most of the south and east, followed by a straight week of single digits in many areas. Expect power outages…
Here’s my favorite Youtube weather guy:
I really feel for you who live in the south. All yhat snow and cold weather of which is atypical. I hope you all stayed home and are safe.
Those of us in the northern part don’t get to have snow because it’s too cold. I’m thankful to have enough experience off grid because we are prepared with enough firewood, shelter, food, and water. Really, these types of days are made for rest.
A little cooler day here today, -16C (3F), nothing compared to Bill but cold enough. Sunny beautiful day and of course burning some wood ![]()
Daylight hours are getting longer by almost 5 minutes a day, we’re up to 7 1/2 hours now
Time to ash out the boiler, i know ![]()

How are my northern friends fairing . We’ve gotten down in the 20’s but are up in the 30s now during the day. @Wayne did the polar bears pass you by they were headed south last I saw them.
Hey Jakob
I may want to go South also. About 60F is about as cold as I can handle ![]()
Wayne, you might want to go put your winter coat on before reading the rest of this post. Was 19 below zero F here last week with 40 below wind chill. 4 F right now but it is supposed to warm up to the 20s by next week. Still not as cold as I remember growing up in South Dakota.

Hey Garry
Thanks a bunch for the warning and heads up before throwing that iceberg my way .
. . It is cold here in LA ( lower Alabama ) but trying to survive . This morning I put another log in the heater and turned on the TV but had to turn it back off because of them using profanities like the S word.
Hi Wayne, S word? Skiing, Snowboading? Oh ya the white Stuff that falls from the sky. I have not seen any up here lately. But today I was outside working on the Jeep Gasifier in my shirt no coat. It was almost 50°f and this is not normal weather we are having here. I hope when you read this it does not cause you put on a coat and put another log on the fire. I sure hope and pray that the weather returns back to normal for you all down South.
gratulations and gods blessings…a new woodgasser…keep your woodgas cars in good conditions, soon he will drive…
Congratulations proud grandpa, this sure put a big smile on my face. Such a cute baby ![]()
Amazing bundle of joy! He already looks almost as smart as his grandpa.
Put a smile on my face, too—congratulations, Wayne. I know you are proud.
Congratulations, Mr Wayne!
Funny he’s already with the fire department watching over you ![]()
