As always, it depends. Fresh wood would be 100-120 cuts but the dry logs are quite hard on the chain so perhaps somewhere around half that.
I usually make the logs a little over 5m, about 17feet long.
I’ll make you a few pics Jan as soon as I had my morning coffee and sent the kids off to school
Here you go Jan, I added one of the log lifter/ leveller too just in case.
I thought your sawmill is essentially the same as this before you rebuilt it and converted it to a bandsaw mill, different year model perhaps so these solutions could be different.
Thanks Johan.
The log lifter is similar to mine but attaching the log is completely different, not good at all.
But I should be able to make one like you have from a clamp, thanks for the tip.
Jan, I take it you mean how tight I place the boards on the stickers?
No, boards are not dry. I’ve found it makes no difference for drying. They will shrink a little and leave a gap between them anyway.
Sawdust anyone? @Pelletpower you’re into sawdust, aren’t you? Come get some for free.
8:30 Friday night shoveling sawdust. All allone in the woods. The sun is still shining, no wind and still no mosquitos. Complete silence, except for a few birds singing. I’ve had worse Friday nights.
It requires nitrogen (grass clippings, manure) to break down (I swear I read something that said that wasn’t true.) and it turns acidic so add lime and of course it needs water and microbes.
The ladder to the chimney had to serve, well I think it’s 34 bags and most of them contain almost 1.5 m3, I’ll have it for the cottage in Sjöändan and for the cottage in Hörken, but the insulation in the garage is poor.
