I AM TRYING TO FINISH THE GAS COOLING RACK THIS WEEK, I WANT TO MOUNT IT ON THE TRUCK NEXT WEEK, I WANT TO MOUNT IT FIRST BEFORE THE GASIFIER AND STRAW FILTER. I THINK IT WILL BE EASIER THAT WAY.
CUTTING HOLES WERE EASY, AFTER I GOT SET UP. WELDED IN THE CLEAN OUT PORTS, I WAS TWO SHORT ON THE TOP
Very nice work David!
WOW, that is a serious piece of cooling equipment there!
Looks great!
NEW IMPROVEMENT., I WAS LOOKING AT MY COOLING RACK , AND GOT AN IDEA OF HOW I CAN MAKE IT BETTER, SO HERE IT IS . THE TOP 5X5 AND THE END TWO 5X5,S WILL EXTEND ABOVE AND PAST THE CAB ABOUT 3 TO 4 INCHES SO WHY NOT GET THE WIND TO CIRCULATE THRU THE 5X5 ’ S . I ALSO DID CUT-OUTS ACROSS THE BOTTOM 5X5 IT CAN NOT HURT. SEE THE PHOTO’S OF THE CUT OUTS . I STAGGERED THE NEW CUT-OUTS BETWEEN THE VERTICAL PIPES SO CLEANING OUT THE COOLER WILL STILL BE EASY. I AM GOING TO CUT AND WELD 38 PIECES OF EXAUST PIPE 5 1/2 LONG INTO THE CUT OUT HOLES THIS NEXT WEEK . ( LORD WILLING ) I HOPE THE WEATHERMAN IS RIGHT. AND IT COOLES DOWN ?
GOOD NEWS / BAD NEWS . MY TRUCK IS IN THE GARAGE FOR REPAIRS BUT GOOD NEWS , I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO PUT SOME HRS. WORKING ON THE GAS COOLER. MY NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR CAME OVER TO HELP ME TURN THE COOLER OVER, AND TOOK THESE TWO PHOTO,S WITH HIS CELL PHONE. AND E-MAILED THEM TO ME, I HAD A HARD TIME GETTING THEM FROM E-MAIL TO DRIVE ON WOOD. THE GAS INLET WILL BE NEAR THE TOP LEFT AND THE GAS OUTLET WILL BE NEAR THE TOP RIGHT.
David
Wow that’s thinking out of the box!!! This is going to have interesting results Great Work BBB Sean
COOLING SQ. INCHES, I GOT MY CALCULATER OUT AND TRIED TO FIND OUT HOW MUCH COOLING SURFACE WILL BE IN THIS COOLER, IF MY I AM RIGHT ??? THERE IS 5228 SQ. INCHES. I THINK THIS WILL BE ENOUGH ?
Yep I do DaveO.
Look at WayneK’s original tall, tall Ford F250/390-460 cooler and Chris Seymour’s Ford Van/trailer coolers both used for summer work with big, heavy loaded/pulling engines.
Regards
Steve Unruh
That’s a fine looking cooler, mighty fine.

Hi David,
I agree as well more than enough cooling here. I have 4 2" pipes on both sides of my truck and it works great even in Florida heat.
Your work is great and I am sure it will run without a hitch. BBB Sean
I WORKED MOST OF THE DAY ON THE COOLER, VERY LITTLE YET TO BE DONE, GRIND THE WELDS CHECK FOR LEAKS, ADD ONE MORE CLEAN OUT PORT, PAINT AND INSTALL,
Dave,
It kinda looks somewhat like a giant “LEGO” piece. lol! Looks good though, (beefy).
David S.
I DID AN AIR PRESSURE CHECK FOR LEAKS, AND WELDED A FEW OF THEM UP, IT HAS SEVERAL TINY LEAKS, I THINK IT WOULD BE BETTER TO PUT A BLOWER ON IT ON THE SUCTION SIDE, AND CREATE A VACUM IN THE GAS COOLER, THEN SPRAY THE WELDS WITH HIGH TEMPETURE PRIMER, (WHICH I PLAN TO DO ANYWAY ) THE VACUM WILL SUCK THE PRIMER INTO THE TINY HOLES AND SEAL THEM UP, I HOPE, ??? BUT IF NOT, I THINK WAYNE SAID THAT TINY LEAKS WILL SEAL THEMSELVES, WHEN THE GAS RUNS THRU HIS COOLING PIPES . ??
I AM THINKING AHEAD A LITTLE, I WANT TO GET MY FLARE OFF BLOWER READY, I AM PLANNING ON PUTTING IT BETWEEN THE SEPERATING TANK AND THE GAS COOLER. I LIKED RON LEMLER,S SET UP THAT I SAW AT THE INDIANA MEET UP. ANY ADVICE WILL BE APPRECIATED, I THINK I WANT TO MAKE THE FLARE OFF SYSTEM COMPLETELY SEPERATE FROM THE MAIN GAS FLOW LINE ?? , I HAVE A BLOWER WITH NO MOTOR SO I WILL HAVE TO BUY A MOTOR , ANYONE KNOW HOW MANY RPM MOTOR I NEED TO BUY ?? THIS BLOWER WILL RUN FOR FLARE OFF ONLY.
Look up AC/heater blowers on the Auto Zone web site. lots to choose from. You will have to go through them untill you find the ones that are just the motor by them selfs with no housings. Problen is you may need to make a bushing. I think all of those motors have a 1/4" shaft.
HEY GASSERS, SUCKING THE HIGH -TEMP PRIMER INTO THE TINY LEAKS WORKS GREAT, I TOOK THE FILTER OUT OF MY SHOP - VAC AND FURNACE TAPED THE WAND TO THE COOLING UNIT, MIKE L CAN BE PROUD OF ME NOW. LOL . I TURNED ON THE SHOP -VAC AND GOT GREAT SUCTION / VACUM . I CLEANED & WIRE BRUSHED THE COOLER AND THEN RAN MY TORCH OVER IT TO BURN OFF ANY OIL FILM THAT MIGHT BE ON IT. I PRIMED ALL THE WELDED JOINTS WHILE THE SHOP - VAC WAS RUNNING THEN TURNED IT OFF AND PUT A SECOND COAT OF PRIMER ON, I CAN NOT FIND ANY LEAKS NOW.
You are a pro man. Sweet success.

HEY GASSERS, I HAVE BEEN TOLD I THINK TOO MUCH, SEVERAL TIMES LOL. WELL I AM RE-THINKING WHERE TO LOCATE THE BLOWER AND FLARE OFF STACK. IN THE PAST I PUT IT AFTER THE CYCLONE AND IT GOT TOO HOT, FOR THE BLOWER MOTOR AND WARPED THE BLOWER BLADE, SO IF I PUT IT AFTER THE COOLING RACK AND BEFORE THE STRAW FILTER , THE TEMP SHOULD BE LOWER , SO WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK ???
