Apart from stalking woodgas sites, one of my other hobbies is model trains. I’m not talking about OO/HO gauge, but 5" gauge (4 3/4" in America), big enough to ride o!. I was nosing through a suppliers website when I came across one of their blowers, designed to start up coal fired steam engines. I doubt it has the draw to start up a WK system, but if it can get a fire drawn on a model steam engine, then perhaps it has potential for small wood and charcoal gassers. Its bonus points are the aluminium construction and 12V motor…
It is a bit pricey, but that’s due to the hobby circle it’s in!
The link worked a while back, but I have no luck getting back there either. But if your interested in building your own blower here are some links to the impeller and DC motor I use in my systems. You will need to build your own housing for this but the end result is a very powerful blower made for wood gas. The impeller is for Poulan/Craftsman leaf blower and has a 5/16 bore arbor with a flat. The motors come from Autozone’s online store. I get the impellers from my local hardware store for about 4 bucks a piece and the motors are around 18 bucks.
Matt,
I’m always trying to make my gasifier projects from “obtainium”. Thanks for the pricing info and the links.I especially like the 12 volt DC option.
I’m off to do some research. Pepe
