As long as it does not say WET fart Kontrol. Lol lol.
I thought maybe this is the place for my charcoal endevours.
Huge miss-estimation. The char didnāt shrink as much as I thought when screened. I filled a full size barrel with most of my bags of unscreened material still untouched. However, free lid barrels donāt grow on trees (maybe not an English expression). I will have to do some investigation.
Iām sorry charcoal guys, but this wasnāt as fun as I thought - messy and dirty - and I didnāt even need to make and crush it before screening.
I realise I do prefer wood chunks. Iāve been processing chunks for the past 9 years and never suffered the slightest inconvenience
I think this is why Gary Gilmore put so much effort into his crusher sifter setup with the long ramp, he can be above the whole assembly while itās crushing away.
The dust isnāt fun especially on a sweaty day. Youāll end up looking like a coal miner.
Your facial expression says it all
Me two
Might be the saddest picture Iāve ever seen JO. I probably would have wept for you but I was laughing to hard.
Thick garbage bags work well, JO.
Itās strange this soot, you wash yourself and wash yourself, but strangely enough the towel is black anyway.
It is best to do it on a windy day so you can stay upwind of it. That being said, I just use a screen over the wheelbarrow now. My double trommel didnāt have a large enough opening to easily feed it. The concept worked. It was able to crush char that was too large, and sort out the too small, provided it wasnāt actual brands.
Do they sell Lava soap in Sweden? That will take that soot off. Leaves the face rosy red, kind of like washing with a belt sander.
Tom,
I do like your sense of humor.
JO,
Processing charcoal is nasty work for me, too, but I enjoy smiling with every mile. So, I guess itās worth it.
If you donāt want Tomās eloquently described soap. They do add charcoal to soap. The first place I ever saw it was up by Tom in traverse city at the lavendar farm.
However, I donāt see it in their online catalog so here is somewhere else or you can make your own and use whatever fragrance you wish.

Thanks a lot guys for your consern.
I think they sell a similar scrub soap over here called Cresto or something. With really dirty fingers I use a mix of paint thinner and washing powder. Maybe not the healthiest - but effective.
jo, try bucket refueling with charcoal in a bigger hopperā¦
you are more near with the face, max distance is arm lenghtā¦
Yup that picture of you JO shows you are a total amateur at making charcoal. I have learned to do it the wet way so there is no dust. Cool it down fast with water.
But I have to admit I have looked like that in the past when working with dry charcoal and screening it dry.
Haha, so true Bob
Tip of the day for charcoal makersā¦ if you donāt want to end up looking like a panda bear with black rings around your eyes or any other sensitive skin area then rub petroleum jelly (Vasoline) over those areaās before starting your day on the dark side .
At the end of your days play the dark dusty grime will just wash away with a gentle wash .
