Chevrolet s10 4.3

I have a problem with the s10, it sounds like the shaft of the four-wheel drive is lying and jerking.
I oiled the wire and looked at the vacuum, but see no faults there, does anyone have any suggestions.

Jan; Don’t quite understand your problem, but that never stops me from throwing my two cents in. I have had several S10 Blazers and I have had to replace the front wheel bearings more times than I can remember. Just a thought. TomC

Thanks Tom C, if I put in 4 wheel drive when it sounds it will be quiet.
If I then put out the 4 wheel drive, it is usually quiet for a while, it seems like it only happens when I drive slowly, very strange.

Cleaning the cyclone and gengas unit after running for a week.

Looks like that cyclone does a great job at filtering out the small stuff!

I was in to Ludvika today, our nearest town, I saw no more gengas car in the parking lot.
As usual I was worried on the bigger road, so the rpm got a little too high for the filter.

Do you have stiffners in the barrel like Bob and Don have?

I have some rebar, but they want to fold, would have welded them together into a ladder, but am a little lazy.

Talking of tires - since you keep your spare tire in the filter barrel, maybe it could somehow be part of a barrel support :thinking:

Wooden round pieces with holes in them is what I use. They came from cable spools. Bottom one seats off the bottom on top of a plastic bucket with holes in it. Then the hayfilter laundry bags. On top of that one more wooden spool end. My barrel is straight sided. I notice you had no hay in your filter barrel. I would build a frame spool and drop it in. I can see my barrel flexing on hard vaccum pulls but it does not collapse.

You could put more then 4 barrel wall supports in.

I think I saw your solution before, it seems to work well, I have tested with a few different filters, so it has not been possible to build in the barrel.

I have a scratching sound from my engine, it sounds like it comes from the fan or the water pump.
Feels like it’s a bit loose in the pump, but does not leak, is it more likely that it’s Fan Clutch, which is scratching?

Jan that is belt noise.
Chirping sound.
Ignore until it becomes too annoying. Then replace the belt.

At the beginning I think I hear and underlaying ball bearing rumble?
We use long probe mechanics stethoscopes to listen to each item. Must be v-e-r-y careful.
Could be not a going bad bearing but worn belt induced. When the belt is off feel all pulleys and driven items for bearings wear.

Both the wife’s Ford Edge car and my GMC moving van need new accessory belts and have the accessory drive train noisy now.

Sigh. Will this rain here ever stop!? I have much deferred maintenances to catch up on. I have no useable covered shop here at home. I do all of this out in the open.

Jan if you want to silence the belt, take a bar of soap and while engine is running, have the grooves of the belt rub on the soap. Just be careful you don’t get your fingers caught!

It’s not a belt sound, set sounds like a ball bearing is breaking.

Easy way to tell if it is the belt, spray with water while running if sound changes it’s the belt. Belts will make grinding or cracking sounds.

I have tested, no difference in sound.

Could you take the belt off and see if there is any sound ?

Yes, I tested it too, thought it was ac, so I switched to a ball bearing instead, but the sound was still on, is there any bearing in the stain that might sound?

That sounded like the impeller in the water pump Jan but since there is no water leaking from the pump that wouldn’t make sense either because the pulley shaft would have to be loose for it to leak. When ever I can’t figure out what’s wrong with something I just blame it on the government.
