To tell you the truth, I’m not sure if DOW is possible from here. Also, I’m a little worried how forign police would react. We may have to bite the bullet and run dino.
The Volvo has no DOW papers - only the truck, and I doubt it would be up to the challange. Its gasifier, and the truck itself for that matter, is more suited for puttering around home - not autobahn
Well, we’ll see. Maybe @JohanM will have his long distance cruiser up and running by then
Im just wondering about border/customs, how to explain it’s extra fuel, not illegal importing of foreign wood-species? Im not very used to travelling, haven’t drove a car outside sweden once…
I heart China doesnt except wooden pallets. Afraid for bugs. So, as long as you hit the brakes on time and dont keep driving it will be ok. No real borders anyway, we are all in the Sengen?
I am hoping it is doable to have my Volvo registred as dual fuel but I dont know yet, still have to dive into it.
I was thinking about this trip this morning and saw the distance, but then I thought perhaps it is worth it to take the ferry Nynäshamn to Gdansk, we loose a lot of distance then. Still plenty but it is more doable plus the fact that it could be off motorways and such through Poland.
Have not checked any prices but apart from that, how does that sound?
I wonder if you could travel in some sort of a caravan of “historical fueled” vehicles with signs advertising it. Maybe they would leave you alone and even get some news coverage?
1000km equals 621 miles about the same distance from my house to Argos Indiana. Worth the trip to meet the people , shake hands, get teased,do some teasing, and learn. Makes me want buy a plane ticket.
Yeah, I absolutely think it would be cool, especially if we could shave that third down and get to the 600-ish miles depending on the ferryprice though, at a glance the ticket seems to be 500$ return trip for an adult + car, 270$ extra if a trailer is brought.
Everyone is welcome, nothing is like meeting people in person.
Interesting idea, Johan. Definately worth looking into. I found “summer”-tickets at $371 + passenger $65 + trailer $253. Remember it’s an 18 hour crossing and includes a good night’s sleep in a cabin, which hopefully means no accomodation needed until we reach our destination.
I’ve never visited Poland, but based on just a feeling maybe Polish police would be less picky on wood power compared to the Germans
Yes, the 371 was driver+car and 65 for every additional passenger.
Edit: Ruff calculation says 1200 miles means about 50 bags or 500kg/1100 pounds of wood. I believe 50 bags would fit in a small covered trailer, don’t you think?
If things go right this year I would love to fly over there to meet you guys in person. I read every word you guys post and it is so good to hear from like minded people.
And you should, CZ is really the centre of Europe. Lots of culture to sniff if the woodgas is to much for you after a few days. And they really are ahead with all the new technics and stuff. We payed them a short visit in december, it really surprised me or my eyes are not that well anymore. You see castles everywhere. It is up to Kamil to confirm that.
Even though I have not met more than a few woodgassers in my life, after spending time here at dow I am more and more understanding what Wayne means when he says that he have yet to meet a woodgasser that he didnt like.
So if you have the means and time you are welcome to come
