DOW Europe Gathering

A lot of very pleasant posts gathered, mostly to the theme of WHERE. Until further notice, I will assume, that central position of Bohemia makes it leader to the proud host of the gathering. It will allow us to start discussion about features of particular place relating to program we would like to enjoy during our meeting.

My first question about the place is straightforward: would you prefer regular autocamp providing the relevant infrastructure or some “wild” place, where we will depend on our group off-grid capacity? Both variants have their pros&cons.

Haha, still no response  I guess it shows we need time to think this through. Also, it depends on a lot of factors.
Instinctivly I would prefer a “wild place”, but it depends. With a lot of people it would be nice if there was at least an outhouse. If it was around here I would position us close to the river or a lake to be able to wash up, but I don’t know how things work and what’s possible down there.
If there’s a reasonably priced location with all the facilities, that’s fine too. Less trouble, since there will be a bunch of us on the same spot. Still, we would probably prefer not to risk desturbing others with motorized equipment, vehicles and all.
Thoughts?

I agree with JO, i would prefer a wild place, but with some “convenience facilities” .

Haha, I was thinking the same. First of all I have to build a gasifier. That has to really speed up now. Next thing is how to tell the chief I am going to burn a lot of wood with some nice but a little crazy people :grinning::grinning:, assuming she doesnt want to join :grinning:. Go alone , with the boys or with a likeminded friend…? First things first no generator no fun

I waited a bit for serious users of wood gas to give their opinion, but I too am in favor of a more “wild” meeting place

The best thing would be if there was someone in that area who is a woodgasser perhaps even here on dow and had a farm we could gather on and hopefully be able to use an outhouse but I know that the odds are heavily against us. But between the two earlier choices for me is the wild calling most.

OK, that’s a challenge. I have one year to either become a landowner or find the other one. We will see.

Hello everybody,
I answer a little late, but for my part, I have a preference for a place with a minimum of “commodities”. The journey is tough and a little comfort will be welcome. Personally, I have passed the age of sleeping in barns…
A wild place, why not, but with some amenities nearby.

I vote for the “wild place” too. But indeed it has its drawbacks.

Firstly, Kamil, whats the law up there? Here such a gathering might be investigated fast by the authoritys… and legaly you may not sleep outside the camp area…

Also what about the fire and smoke? Grilling? Wuld this atract atention?

Perhaps it wuld be enaugh to just find someone that owns the land, so that we have permission?

Here you can rent a chemical outhouse for cheap. Perhaps you can do this there too?

I have no problems with being in an autocamp either, but reving up and smoking hoppers might get us thrown out real fast probably… but perhaps we can combine both? Sleep, talk and wash up in the autocamp then do our woodgas buisness on a private land?

Just throwing in thods

I think this is good points and ideas Kristijan, and also very doable if we can find someones secluded land to be on (if it is legal).

With permission of the land owner it shuldnt be a problem. Its public/state land that usualy is…

Definitely, you can’t go anywhere and setup a campsite. It is allowed to stay overnight on public land if you don’t set up open fire and impact the site. Nothing useful for DOW gathering :sunglasses:

So the only way is to find some private landowner and to agree with him on the action. This is usually used for music actions like festivals. The alternative for that could be some really tiny autocamp which could be rented as whole.

Certainly the other proposal from Kristijan should deserve our attention. Common autocamp might very good place where we could stay, feast around the fire and do many other things. Only DOW showtime should take place somewhere else, where nobody could complaint against the DOW practice.

Will 2024 be the year of the meeting of wood gas lovers and users? I’m still FOR. :grinning:

I’m all for it too, but unfortunately I will have to decide last minute. Youngest daughter and her husband are moving up from Gothenburg this spring and my elderly parents are moving too during summer. I suspect I’m the one in between who will be heavily involved.

Yes. Owners of open bed trucks, and trailers will always be asked a lot.
Now I have found oversized van-trucks not so much. Blind to the rear puts off most borrowers.
Plus I think the belief, that big-boxy means too much fuel will be owed.

I’m all for it too. Our holidays are not organized yet, but could well take place in the Czech Republic this summer…

Hello everyone.
Summer is already ending and the meeting still hasn’t happened… I’ll definitely be there, it’s a pity that it’s not on wood gas but still not a dinosaur.
I’ll come on a vegetarian.
