Should say dump…not dumb…dumb me. LOL
Just curious, just hoping that there was nothing wrong with it.
A video of regular gasifier maintenance would be really nice.
you are getting ready to come to Marshall??
Yes Carl, getting ready for the trip. If nothing goes wrong we are planning on getting there sometime Friday. Grandson is going to come with us so hoping he can get out of school at noon. If you are in fact able to bring me some wood, I’m going to see how much I can haul with out pulling a trailer. Maybe if I can get there with a few extra bags I can swap some with you for you to try in your truck. Mixed hardwood from my place. (If you want).
Gary
It will be mostly KD cabinet scraps with a fair amount of air dry fist size chunks. All H/W. We should arrive late Friday afternoon. Sounds great, drive careful.
Robert S. … I’m planning on making a video of some of the work one can expect to do if you want to drive on wood. From chunking, drying and bagging the wood. Plus a complete video of routine dumping draining and various thing I do during a routine pit stop on the truck. And thanks for asking if I was having trouble. One reason for using the Z71 also is because I had hauled my skid loader behind the Dakota, and pulled my race car trailer behind the big track to go get a B Allis Chalmers that I had to move a lot of junk and move some stuff in order to get it out of the barn it had been sitting in for 16 years. I bought it from my Uncle who is 79 years old. The Dakota was still hooked to my skid loader trailer with it still loaded so I just swapped trailers behind the Z71 and used it.

with a belly mower to boot. Looks like everybody is getting tractor fever. I feel it coming on myself, and it’s all Arvid’s fault.
And some biochar, and some pellets for whomever… See you Friday.
Thanks Carl…your great. Much appreciated and hope I can do the same for you if ever in the area and needing some fuel. See you Friday.

Another place I get some wood is at the local utilities yard in town. I go by there everyday on the way home from work (just a couple blocks from work). I carry my cordless chainsaw with me that also gets recharged while driving on wood, through an inverter. I have plenty of trees on my place that fall or die every year to keep me supplied but there just something about going by this place that lures me in. If I don’t get it, it gets hauled off and disposed of.

Man, That Utilities Yard looks like Heaven. I sure would like to get my hands on some of that… pallets, skids, poles. Smashed broken up pallets make awesome kindling. Wish the Utility Company’s around here would let people take what they need. I suppose they still let folks do that kinda thing in Smaller Towns or Communities. I live in the Big City and the A–holes that run the Ulility Co. around here are So worried about legal liabilities and someone getting hurt.
Gary, what kind of cordless chainsaw do you have? Are they any good? I think Mike LaRosa has one too.
I am curious like Don as to what kind of chainsaw you have. How much can you cut on a charge?
Light Bulb Idea, You Guys were Discussing wood supply when you were traveling long distances away from home and not wanting to haul bunches n bunches of wood chunks along with ya. Well how about this… There is lots of guys with gasifiers scattered across the country ( few in each state ) If a fellow woodburner was traveling thru Kansas City (my part of the country) and needing a few sacks of wood allready chunked up n ready to go I would be more than welcome to Share a few sacks to get a fella refueled untill he got to another city where he could get helped out by another fellow woodburner. See where I am going here with this ? I’m sure Chris has a list of names and the cities their from. If a guy was to plan ahead if he was planning a trip and Posted here on DOW, Example- " Planning a Trip in the Dakota from Kansas City to Alabama to Visit my Brother the Second week of November 10-13th. East to St. Louis then South thru Tenn. KY. then Alabama. " Not going to be in a hurry so I’ll have time to stop and visit for a few hours and show off the truck kinda thing n give a ride… If anyone was within fair distance along the route has a few bags of wood they could share I would return the favor to another wood burner if the situation should arise. This Sure would Beat Pulling a Trailer along behind just to haul enough wood to make the Trip. Has Anyone got any Thoughts on This ? Maybe this all ready exists and i missed it. heck I am still new here, only been reading for about 6 months…
BBB… Brian M.
Good Morning Mr.Brian,
I think there is a thread somewhere on this . Also I think there may be a map…
Anyone driving a wood burner by here gets free wood.
Make sure you stop by in Nov.

Thank you for the Invitation Wayne. I am trying to get all my chores done before winter so i can go visit Family Friends. But Reality is I have way too many things to do. I work alot slower now that I am Disabled but I still hammer away at it slow n easy. Hard work and Dedication gets the job done just take a bit longer for me. I am still in the process of many hours of welding in adding Secondary Air Combustion Tubes in the woodstove to keep the house Warm. Splitting, Stacking … Not to Mention I have Barely even started on building a gasifier for the truck so i am still driving on Petrol for now. And I still haved a whole list of other chores. Not Enough Hours in the Day. I Really think I will have to Hold off on the Trip untill Spring but when I do head south I will look you up and Stop in for a Visit. Brian M. – Kansas City
After running a lot of the above pallet scrap wood, I started noticing some odd running. Cold spots in the gasifier and not breathing properly. So today I removed all the charcoal and pulled the nails out with a magnet. Found quite a few! It’s back to running properly now.
You almost have enough nails to melt into a grate Chris.
Can you explain what you mean “cold spots”? How are they identified?
