I have some nickel welding rod that I use to weld up cracked cast exhaust manifolds. I have also seen it done with 7018 so I know welding cast is possible at least with a rod I don’t know about wire

secret to cast welding is grind out, preheat, weld with nickle cast rod, post heat, let cool slowly.

I used too weld cast iron stacking caps on automotive parts racks, all day long with 6011 rod. Though i suppose it all depends on the type of cast iron were are welding too.

I have seen cheap China cast fittings crack and have pin holes from welding. Good fittings can be found but are more expensive. Nice to skip hardware store fittings and buy made in the USofA steal fittings, if possible.
